Bonnie Wright Premieres New Short Film, Starring Jason Isaacs and Anna Shaffer!
Bonnie Wright has been focused on filmmaking making since her days as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. Her latest project brings together her Potter history and love for filmmaking in the form of the short film Medusa’s Ankles, starring Potter alumni Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) and Anna Shaffer (Romilda Vane)!
Based on a short story by A.S. Byatt, Medusa’s Ankles focuses on the relationship of a classics professor (Kerry Fox) and salon owner Lucien (Isaacs). The film premieres this week in a working hair salon in the city of Lincoln, England.
In an interview with the Lincolnite, Bonnie revealed that the film focuses on the unique relationship between a hairdresser and their client and also touches on the many different ways in which we view ourselves:
It’s about her (Suzannah, played by Fox) relationship and experience with her hairdresser and how intimate a relationship that can often be.
When asked how she developed a love for storytelling and directing, Bonnie spoke of her time on the Potter sets and the experience that gave her of the other side of filmmaking:
I was also so curious when I was younger and asking all the different departments while I was acting. What does this do? What does this button on this camera do? Why are you setting up a light like this? And that really was the beginning of my education in filmmaking as a whole.
On the subject of Potter, Bonnie also revealed what it was like to direct fellow wizarding alumni Isaacs and Shaffer:
Because I’m friends with them it makes it sort of a fun and enjoyable experience and they luckily have respect for me and they trust me to sort of get on with the job.

In addition, Bonnie also spoke to students at the University of Lincoln, which is a partner in the cultural program Mansions of the Future. As well as speaking further about Medusa’s Ankles, Bonnie spoke about the importance of the Mansions of the Future project for both the film and the local community. Medusa’s Ankles will be played for audiences in a working hair salon in the city of Lincoln from Thursday, May 24 to Saturday, May 26. The screenings are free to attend and you can register for tickets here.
