by Gretchen Roesch · June 28, 2018

Germany may be getting Harry Potter: The Exhibition, but soon England will be getting the spiders! July 2 marks 20 years since Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets‘ first publication. To celebrate the anniversary and the release of the new House editions, Bloomsbury Children’s Books has commissioned seven spider models to be created from the pages of the new House editions.

The models were designed and built by Create 180 in London. Starting June 30, six of the spiders will be on display in British bookshops, while the seventh will be displayed in the Bloomsbury offices for the anniversary date before being sent to Seven Stories in Newcastle. The large spiders will be 50 x 50 cm, and each one will be created from a unique page from Chamber of Secrets.

CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

“Enemies of the Heir, beware.”

The spiders are coming!

Bloomsbury commissions seven spider models made from the pages of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to mark [the] 20th anniversary

Monday, July 2 marks 20 years since the first publication of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and to celebrate Bloomsbury Children’s Books has commissioned seven spider models created from the pages of the brand new House Editions.

Designed and built by London-based creative agency Create 180, the models will be unveiled across the UK on Saturday 30th June. Six of the spiders will be on display at bookshops. The big arachnids (approximately 50x50cm) will appear at five Waterstones stores (Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, London Piccadilly and Nottingham) and The Book Nook in Hove, winner of Children’s Bookseller of the Year at The British Book Awards. The seventh spider will be on display at the Bloomsbury offices for the anniversary date and will then be sent on to Seven Stories in Newcastle.

Each spider will have a unique ‘skin’ created from pages of the House Editions of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Published for this very special anniversary the House Editions have cover art by award-winning artist Levi Pinfold. The hardbacks will be in each [H]ouse colour with artwork in black and striped sprayed edges. The paperbacks will be black with artwork in the corresponding [H]ouse colours. Both editions will contain additional content including an illustration of the [H]ouse common room by Levi Pinfold, a [H]ouse introduction and a mini-feature on house-elves. Books will be in stores from Friday 29th June.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was first published in 1998. It continued the adventures of Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and introduced the world to classic characters such as Dobby the house-elf, Gilderoy Lockhart and the monstrous Acromantula Aragog! The Harry Potter series has now sold over 500 million copies worldwide.
