Matthew Lewis to Tackle the Funny Side of Impending Parenthood in “Baby, Done”

After the drama and suspense of 2018’s Terminal, Matthew Lewis is now preparing for a decidedly more lighthearted role.

Deadline Hollywood announced Monday that Lewis has signed on to star in the upcoming comedy Baby, Done. Filming is currently underway in Auckland, New Zealand.

 

 

 

The movie also stars Rose Matafeo, comedian and performer on the New Zealand late-night sketch show Funny Girls. She and Lewis will portray Zoe and Tim, a couple in a long-term relationship who discover they are pregnant. Zoe, a tree surgeon, subsequently begins a race against the clock, attempting to accomplish her life’s dreams before her child arrives.

Lewis, who is coming off another comedic role as a guest on the web series Nutritiously Nicola, says he’s excited to be acting alongside Matafeo.

I fell in love with the script immediately and the team of creatives behind it. I’m also a big fan of Rose and her work, and so to be opposite her shooting in beautiful New Zealand is a privilege, and I’m looking forward to bringing this story to life.

The two already seem to be getting along famously, with Lewis firing back at Matafeo Monday after the actress joked about the fact he’d just followed her on Twitter.

 

 

The script for Baby, Done was penned by actress/writer Sophie Henderson and will be directed by her husband, Curtis Vowell. The pair says the story is actually a “semi-autobiographical” tale of their own reactions to starting a family. Vowell also said he’s thrilled with the on-screen chemistry developing between Lewis and Matafeo.

Sophie and I are over the moon to be working with Rose and Matthew – they’re hilarious together, and their chemistry is electric. We’re already having a lot of fun making it and can’t wait to deliver it to the world.

Baby, Done is currently scheduled for distribution in New Zealand and Australia in 2020. There has been no word yet on when or if the film will arrive in theaters elsewhere.
