Clémence Poésy Announced as New Ambassador for Shiseido

by Bethan Roberts · March 20, 2019

Shiseido has proven itself a key player in the rise of Japanese beauty by utilizing both traditional ingredients and modern technological advances. The new face of this innovative company has been revealed to be none other than Clémence Poésy (Fleur Delacour), who perfectly encapsulates the busy woman who wants a well-rounded, intelligent approach to her skin care that the company is targeting.

Beauty in itself is something of intimate importance to Poésy. A focus on beauty comes with the territory of being an actress and model, but Poésy hasn’t let any of the glamour of her world go to her head.

Instead, Poésy views beauty as something beyond the commercial and superficial and lyrically describes how beauty is actually more a reflection of inner personhood.

Beauty is in the light that shines from us, the light we reflect on things, but it’s also in the energy, kindness and grace that radiates from each individual.

This is especially impressive when considering the immense pressure actresses are under to maintain and present a certain appearance. Despite this, Poésy is choosing to focus on maintaining a positive outlook toward her natural looks, particularly regarding growing older.

It’s important to remember that growing old is a privilege. Not everyone has that luxury. I think that having a full life, and thinking about other people helps to draw focus from the idea of ageing. You realise that you get a little wise with the turning of the years.

The race to perfection isn’t something that Poésy has any interest in either, despite her career in the spotlight, and instead, she focuses on how beauty can enhance her craft.

I try to steer clear of it, and not read what people say about my body. […] It’s important not to fall into the trap of perfection – my job is first and foremost to tell stories – and my face does that… The expression lines there are useful and serve a purpose.

Although inspired by her family on beauty matters, Poésy has also looked to them for guidance on feminism and women’s issues. As an advocate for both the Time’s Up movement and the 50/50 by 2020 campaign to achieve gender parity in cinema, Poésy described the need to have these conversations but noted that the battle is far from over.

I was raised to be [a feminist] by both parents. I think it’s a path you need to walk together. Recent events have brought about global awareness, men have started to realise what women are still going through. There’s a long way to go.

This commitment to gender equality mirrors that of Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), who works closely with the United Nations as a goodwill ambassador on the HeForShe campaign.

Are you excited to see Poésy’s campaign with this beauty giant?
