Dursley Turned Poet – Harry Melling Cast as Edgar Allan Poe in New Film
This definitely isn’t the Dudley Dursley we know. Harry Melling, who played the spoiled and rambunctious Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films, is continuing to take over the screen. This time, Melling will be playing the well-known author Edgar Allan Poe. He has been cast in a new murder mystery film, The Pale Blue Eye, alongside Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation).
Melling has come a long way since his Harry Potter days. Some of his most recent works such as The Queen’s Gambit and The Devil All the Time have been well received by critics and fans alike. Scott Cooper (Hostiles, Out of the Furnace) will be directing The Pale Blue Eye, which is based on the mystery novel of the same title penned by Louis Bayard in 2006. This has been a passion project for Cooper in the works for several years.
This film follows a retired New York City detective (Christian Bale) and a young Edgar Allan Poe (Melling) who investigate an apparent suicide at West Point Academy in the 19th century. Things begin to get complicated as more and more bodies pile up.
Production is set to begin this fall with no release date at this time. While we’re waiting for more details on this film, there are a few you can add to your “to watch” list to get your Harry Melling fix. His most recent work, Say Your Prayers, was released a few months ago, and he has a film with Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion, Black Mirror) and Demi Moore (G.I. Jane, Ghost) titled Please Baby Please to be released later this year.
