Austin Outlaws Win MLQ South SuperSeries

by Veronika Kohoutová · July 22, 2021

The third week of the 2021 Major League Quidditch (MLQ) season is over. This time, seven teams played against each other in three different locations on July 17–18. Each of them had to play three or six Muggle quidditch games for the chance to qualify for MLQ Championship.

In five columns, there are logos of the pairings and the final scores from their three matches. There is one sign "Series Score Recap" above them.

This past weekend, the South SuperSeries was held in League City, Texas. Three teams played against each other: the League City Legends, the Austin Outlaws, and the New Orleans Curse. Like the New York Titans in the East SuperSeries in the first weekend of the season, the Austin Outlaws won all their games.

But the most dramatic match happened between the League City Legends and the New Orleans Curse. It was the second-longest game of the weekend, and the final score was 140–135 for the League City Legends. They also won the other games and placed second in the South SuperSeries.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Intensity and Minneapolis Monarchs played against each other in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Minneapolis Monarchs are a new MLQ franchise, established in 2019. Because of the pandemic, the team didn’t have the opportunity to get more experience.

That’s why the Monarchs’ win against the Indianapolis Intensity in the first game was such a surprise: It was the team’s first MLQ win. One win wasn’t enough, though. The Minneapolis Monarchs also won the second and third games and became the North Division Champions.

The Minneapolis Monarchs are pictured on orange background in an image declaring the team North Division Champions.

The last games were played in Boston, Massachusetts. The Boston Forge played against the Rochester Whiteout there and won all three games.

As in previous weeks, on the Monday after the games, a recap of the weekend was given by MLQ Replay. On July 21, Quid in 5 shared highlights of the match. Both videos were shared through the MLQ Facebook page. Also, the Beater of the Week, Hallie Pace, and Quaffle Player of the Week, Augustine Monroe, were announced there. Both players are from the Austin Outlaws.

This weekend, there will be another East SuperSeries in Washington, D.C. This time, the participants will be the Washington Admirals, the Boston Forge, and the Charlotte Aviators. Other games will be played between the Detroit Innovators and the Cleveland Riff in Detroit, Michigan. The last games of the fourth week will be held in San Antonio, Texas, and the playing teams will be the San Antonio Soldados and the League City Legends. All games will be streamed according to the schedule, and tickets are available.

There are three black and white photos from Muggle quidditch. There is a blue column between them with the teams playing in the fourth week.

MLQ has concerns about the new infectious COVID-19 Delta variant in the United States. This is why some new adjustments were announced on July 16.

Because of these increased risks, and the level of uncertainty that this new variant provides, we do not feel comfortable loosening any of our COVID-19 restrictions at this time. This means that teams whose surrounding areas are in Tier 1 (whose team is in Tier 4 with their vaccination boost), will not be able to compete or participate in full-contact, unmasked practices.

That also means that any game that will be canceled due to a team’s tier status will be considered a loss for the team. If both teams are unable to play, it will be a loss for both teams. If this situation happens to a team that is qualified for the 2021 MLQ Championship before the event, the team will not be able to attend the event.
