Castium Revelio: Superhero Trailers and Returning Comedies

First up this week is an interview with Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) about his role in the medical crime drama Good Sam. He recently spoke with the Television Critics Association Zoom panel about his character's reaction to seeing his daughter taking over his job, saying, "I can talk as my character. I don't think she should be running the hospital. I think I have much more experience and skill." He also discussed how his character's large ego creates an "incredibly interesting dynamic" when he returns to work after his hospital admission. 

Next up is a special mini-episode of David Tennant's (Barty Crouch Jr.) lockdown comedy, Staged. The New Year's episode was released on the BritBox YouTube channel on New Year's Eve. The show follows the Zoom meetings between Tennant and co-star Michael Sheen (Prodigal Son). The pair are both showing off their dyed hair in the new episode, as they have been filming the second season of Good Omens. Check out the episode below if you want some laughs!

Do you remember when we told you about Kelly Macdonald's (the Gray Lady) upcoming thriller I Came By? Well, we can now tell you that the project has wrapped filming! The thriller will follow an artist who prefers to use the walls of the wealthy's houses than canvas to create his works. The film will be coming to Netflix at some point in the future, although at the moment we are unsure of when that will be. Keep checking back for more updates!

Next up is a trailer featuring Brendan Gleeson, Harry Melling, and Ralph Ineson (Mad-Eye Moody, Dudley Dursley, and Amycus Carrow, respectively). They're all part of AppleTV+'s upcoming drama The Tragedy of Macbeth, which will be released on January 14. The film was shown in select theaters over the holiday period but will now be made available to the wider public. Have a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

We have another trailer for you next! This time, it's for Season 3 of After Life, in which David Bradley (Argus Filch) will reprise his role as Ray Johnson. The third season of the dark comedy starring comedian Ricky Gervais will make its way to Netflix on January 14. If you're too excited to wait for that long though, you can watch the trailer below, but be aware that the trailer features a lot of strong language.

For our third trailer of this edition, we're heading into the DC universe. Freddie Stroma (Cormac McLaggen) will play Vigilante in the upcoming The Suicide Squad spin-off series, Peacemaker. We've seen teasers and behind-the-scenes photos, and now we have the official red band trailer! Before you watch it, be aware that it does contain some violent scenes.

We're sticking with the DC universe next for our final trailer of this edition, with Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) and Fantastic Beasts'  Zoe Kravitz (Leta Lestrange) and Colin Farrell (Percival Graves) starring in a new teaser for The Batman. The film was recently named one of the public's most anticipated 2022 releases according to IMDb, and after seeing this teaser, we can understand why! All three Wizarding World alums feature in it, with Farrell's Penguin teasing the unlikely partnership between Pattinson's Batman and Kravitz's Catwoman.

Speaking of IMDb's most anticipated list, Ezra Miller's (Credence Barebone) The Flash also made it into the top 50. Miller has also been making comments about the film, answering fans' questions about whether the stories created by director Zack Snyder will be disregarded in future projects. In reply to a fan's Instagram message, Miller stated that fans "are going crazy thinking the movie is erasing Zack's movies," also saying, "they don't see the potential this movie will bring." 

Miller isn't the only one speaking about their upcoming projects; Samantha Morton (Mary-Lou Barebone) has recently been discussing her latest film, Save the Cinema. She explained how she "found the fact we were making a film that was about the love of film, and the love of theatre, quite beautiful" and also described how difficult it was to get her Welsh accent spot-on, saying that she's "done [her] best, so [she] hope[s] it’s not too bad!" 

I thought it was a gentle reminder to society of what’s important, especially given the austerity we’ve had for years. The arts have taken such a crushing blow, both with Brexit and with the pandemic. You can’t forget the arts, you can’t forget music. It is life. It’s so important. 

Next up is a birthday wish from Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander). He celebrated his 40th birthday on Thursday, and to thank his fans for all of the well-wishes, he donated a large sum to a fan-made JustGiving page. All proceeds will go to the Motor Neuron Disease Association, of which Redmayne has been a patron since 2015. This is the sixth year that fans have created a charity page for his birthday, and we hope the tradition continues for many years to come. Happy birthday, Eddie!

Last up this week is a new digital project for Sonia Friedman (producer of Cursed Child). She's helped to produce Fair Play, a play surrounding two women in the same professional running club who, despite being very different people, become quick friends. Performances of the show will continue until January 22, but if you're struggling to get tickets to the show itself, tickets have now been released as an online stream. Ticket holders for the online streams will not only be able to watch it live, but they'll also have access to the stream for 48 hours after the show.
