HP Fans Against Transphobia Pens Open Letter Opposing the “Harry Potter” Television Reboot

A group of fans of the Wizarding World franchise, under the banner HP Fans Against Transphobia, has created an open letter and petition opposing the Harry Potter television reboot on the streaming service Max.

The description of the petition and open letter, as hosted on Action Network, notes HP Fans Against Transphobia’s aims and references comments made by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in relation to the transgender community. Rowling was described as an executive producer of the Harry Potter television reboot at the time that it was announced during an event from Warner Bros. Discovery.

In April, HBO announced the launch of a new Harry Potter TV series. As long time [sic] fans of the series, we wish we could be excited. But because of the harm that J.K. Rowling perpetuates against trans people, we just can’t be. That’s why we’re asking HBO to cancel the show and not platform transphobia. Will you join us?
