MuggleNet Throwback: Universal Studios announces Wizarding World of Harry Potter

It was only five years ago today (May 30) that Universal Studios and Warner Brothers made a joint announcement from Dumbledore’s Office at Leavesden Studios revealing the plans to build the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

From the announcement, J.K. Rowling stated, “The plans I’ve seen look incredibly exciting, and I don’t think fans of the books or films will be disappointed.”

Set Designer Stuart Craig, who was instrumental in bringing the world of Harry Potter to life on the big screen as well as the overall design elements of the theme park, stated: “Our primary goal is to make sure this experience is an authentic extension of Harry Potter’s world as it is portrayed in the books and films.”

As we now know, the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando has been a monumental success, so much so that construction is currently underway to building two more Wizarding World theme parks at Universal Studios Hollywood and Osaka, Japan, as well as an expansion to the original Wizarding World in Orlando.
