Alan Rickman takes part in telethon to raise money for Philippines typhoon victims

Alan Rickman is one of many celebrities who took part in a fundraising drive for the victims of the Philippines typhoon. On November 18 Alan participated in the DEC Telethon in London, manning the phones and taking calls.

The DEC appeal raised $37 million in the first 24 hours and has since raised $56 million. The chief executive of the DEC said about the telethon,

We are also grateful to so many celebrities who have given up their time to help out and to BT who have been extraordinary in their support of the appeal to help raise even more funds. But more money is still needed for emergency aid and to help hundreds of thousands of people rebuild their lives.

Although the telethon is now over, there are still plenty of ways to get involved and donate to the cause. If you are able to donate, The Harry Potter Alliance has posted a list of trusted organizations that are raising money and sending aid to the Philippines.
