Tom Felton Among Rumored Actors Auditioning for Han Solo

Casting directors are searching for the perfect actor to play young Han Solo in the planned Star Wars spin-off movie, and Harry Potter star Tom Felton is one of many who has reportedly auditioned.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, an enormous casting search is being undertaken, with over 2,500 actors auditioning either in person or on tape. Most are between the ages of 18 and 32, with the “sweet spot” being in the mid-20s. Tom himself is 28.

Other auditioners whose names have emerged include Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf), Leo Howard (Kickin’ It), Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove), Rami Malek (Mr. Robot), Tony Oller (The Purge), Hunter Parrish (Weeds), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead), Nick Robinson (Jurassic World), Joshua Sasse (Frankenstein’s Army), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Miles Teller (Divergent), Max Thieriot (Bates Motel), and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl).

Filmmakers are reportedly looking for an actor who somewhat resembles a young Harrison Ford (who of course played Han Solo in the original Star Wars series) and who “can be funny and charming as well as handle the expected action scenes.”

There’s still plenty of time to narrow down the list since shooting isn’t scheduled to begin until January 2017, with a release date of May 25, 2018.

At this point, it seems like a long shot for Tom to get the role, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed. Meanwhile, Tom’s fellow Harry Potter actors Domhnall Gleeson and Warwick Davis will soon be seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, opening December 18.
