J.K. Rowling chair goes for 20,000 pounds

Last week we reported that the chair in which J.K. Rowling wrote her first two Harry Potter books would be re-auctioned for the Books Abroad charity.

Today, The Scotsman is reporting that the chair was sold for 20,000 pounds–one-third more than it went for last time it was auctioned.

Matthew Ford, the art dealer organising the sale, said: “It's a chair you would pay a tenner for in a junk shop but, historically, it's the most important chair in Muggledom, and probably one of the most exceptional and rare pieces of Harry Potter memorabilia ever likely to be offered for sale.”

Twenty percent of the proceeds will go to the Books Abroad charity.
