The Harry Potter Alliance – using magic from within to change the world

by Keith Hawk · Published February 15, 2012 · Updated January 19, 2017

In a new article by BostInno, Andrew Slack and our friends at The Harry Potter Alliance are featured with an inside look at the group’s beginnings, a few of the campaigns they have already accomplished, and where they are headed in the future.

Andrew Slack fell in love with the Harry Potter books by author J.K. Rowling, but something that struck hard with Andrew was from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book. Andrew stated, “In the stories, Harry Potter started Dumbledore’s Army [a student group dedicated to fighting the evil Lord Voldemort], wouldn’t it be great if we had Dumbledore’s Army in real life?”

Andrew partnered with the wizard wrock group Harry and the Potters in 2005 and created the Alliance. The idea of doing social good through story themes really took root in 2006, when Slack wrote an action alert on Myspace that related ignoring Voldemort’s return to that of ignoring global warming. The attention this action received internationally, caused The Harry Potter Alliance charity organization to really take off.

If you have ever wanted to do something for charity in your local area, but were not sure how you could change some of the issues facing our society today, get in touch with The Harry Potter Alliance and find out how to get involved.

In the words of J.K. Rowling, “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside of ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.”
