Wizarding World of Harry Potter attendance up dramatically

by Keith Hawk · Published June 1, 2012 · Updated January 19, 2017

According to an article in the Sun Sentinel, a new report was released by AECOM (a Los Angeles-based market-research firm) and the Themed Entertainment Association, showing that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter experienced a dramatic 29% increase in attendance in 2011, which accounts for a majority of the overall theme park attendance in North America of 2.9% as an industry.

Nearly 7.7 million visitors descended on the Wizarding World in 2011 and outpaced any other theme park in North America. In fact, attendance to the main park of Universal Studios rose just 2%. The incredible increase to the Wizarding World is the obvious reason that Universal is racing to finish the next phases of construction: adding two new Wizarding World theme parks at Universal Studios Hollywood and Osaka, Japan, as well as complete the expansion park at Universal Orlando.

Reminder: Fans have a chance to meet Harry Potter stars Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum) and Louis Cordice (Blaise Zambini) this weekend in Orlando thanks to HP Fan Trips™. Also, the HPEF convention of Ascendio will be descending on the theme park in July. MuggleNet will be attending the convention, and we hope to see you there. If you haven’t yet registered for Ascendio, you can do that right now by clicking here.
