Hermione Granger named best cinema role model

by Keith Hawk · Published January 7, 2013 · Updated January 19, 2017

She may be bossy and slighted school-obsessed, but over the course of the Harry Potter series, Hermione Granger transformed into a brave, headstrong, and invaluable friend with a passion for political activism.

Now, in a poll by LOVEFiLM, with children’s charity Filmclub, Hermione Granger has been voted the best big screen role model. According to itv.com, Hermione picked up 19% of the votes when 1,000 schoolchildren were polled.

Following the illustrious trio’s female appendage were Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (16%) and Matilda Wormwood from Matilda (15%) among the top 10.

Filmclub’s Sam Wainstein comments,

We wanted to work with our philanthropic partner LOVEFiLM to compile a list [that] recognises and celebrates the positive influence these on-screen role models can have.

He also adds,

Characters that young people identify with tend to stay with them the longest, and positive behaviours can be learnt by watching the way that fictional characters handle certain situations on-screen.

Hermione has acted as a wonderful role model for countless Potter fans, and it is great to know that she is still seen as such by schoolchildren today. Have you had a special Hermione moment? Would you consider Hermione a role model?
