QuidCon 2013 to take place in Seattle July 11-15 – Get your reservation NOW!

by Keith Hawk · Published May 30, 2013 · Updated January 19, 2017

QuidCon 2013 is the second annual convention of the International Quidditch Association, and this year it will be taking place from July 11-15 at the Embassy Suites Seattle. QuidCon brings together the entire Quidditch community, including athletes and spectators, playmakers and analysts, new players and old, for five days of programming.

One of the highlights of QuidCon is formal programming, which includes sessions such as “Getting to Know the IQA,” “High School Quidditch,” “Injury Prevention and Care,” and “Team Management.” The sport’s origin will be featured with a discussion of the Harry Potter series, and its future will be continued by referee workshops and positional training sessions. QuidCon will also feature the Sirius Black Tie Ball, a formal dance, and of course outdoor events like the Interregional Tournament, in which players of all skill levels represent their home region and play against teams from other parts of the country and the world.

Most other Quidditch events throughout the year are tournaments, which often don’t give players much time to socialize with members of other teams off the pitch. At QuidCon, it’s all about meeting new people and bonding with other teams, even your rivals. The sense of community is what makes QuidCon one of the most unique events in the IQA’s calendar.

QuidCon will also feature sightseeing in downtown Seattle as well as informal programming like board games and Quidditch Jeopardy. As with any con, it’s a giant slumber party, but unlike all other cons, this one is with Quidditch players, the greatest group ever of your future best friends!

QuidCon 2012 was held in Chicago, IL. Here is some of the feedback from that event:

“QuidCon was beyond memorable; it was a moment when the greatest people from across the country came together to celebrate, not just a sport, but a culture. It showed what makes the sport of Quidditch the best, the bond of long-lasting friendships.”

-Daniel Daugherty, Bowling Green State University

“QuidCon was an amazing experience-everyone was incredibly welcoming, and there was a great sense of community right away. As an international player, it was inspiring and exciting to get a sense of the scope of Quidditch. I made some fantastic new friends that I can’t wait to see again!”

-Clare Hutchinson, University of Ottawa
