“Beauty and the Beast” Heads to Shanghai, Plus “Vanity Fair” Interview

The Beauty and the Beast press tour rumbles on, taking the cast members all over the world for premieres and special events. Those of you who have been following Emma’s new press tour Instagram or the official account for the film will know that the cast have been in Shanghai recently and also touched down in London and Paris, which we recapped in our first Emma roundup last week.

Here are some highlights from Shanghai:

 

 

Nihao Shanghai! Had the most wonderful premiere at Disneyland this evening. So excited to be here and thank you for the generous welcome ?? ? P.S. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride is amazing! Gown crafted from left-over fabric from a previous @eliesaabworld Haute Couture collection. The dress is made from 15 metres of tulle, embroidered with silk thread, sequins, beads and stones, five metres of illusion tulle and four metres of crepe georgette silk. Trainers by: @Veja, a brand that uses innovative, ecological materials, such as Amazonian wild rubber and recycled plastic bottles. @goodguysdontwearleather who do not use any animal products and make their collections in Porto to help preserve the traditional shoe making industry. @allbirds, who recently received status as a certified B Corporation, meaning they meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Gown validated and fashion information verified by @ecoage #ecoloves Make-up base is @kjaerweis Cream Foundation and @rmsbeauty “Un” Cover Up. Kjaer Weis is a certified-organic and natural make-up line that creates refillable metal packaging to help reduce waste. Cheeks tinted with @beautycounter Colour Sweep Blush Duo, which has a compact made of FSC-certified paper, and @tataharper Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tint. Beauty Counter have ‘The Never List’ of 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that they never use in their products. Eyes are @jilliandempsey Khôl Eyeliner (who chooses to use organic and naturally-derived ingredients when formulating her make-up line), @vapourbeauty (who operates its own USDA-approved organic lab) Mesmerize Eye Colour and Kjaer Weis Eye Shadow. Highlight in the inner eyes was created with Kjaer Weis Radiance and brows were finished with @janeiredale Brow Gel. Kjaer Weis Mascara was used on lashes. Final day in Shanghai was a blast. Thank you for having us! ??? Top and trousers by @cienne_ny. Cienne produce locally and in small batches, so they never make more product than needed and aim to reduce fabric waste through pattern-making. All pieces are made in New York’s garment district #30wears (worn previously at @entertainmentweekly shoot). Jewellery by Stockholm-based @allbluesofficial. Every piece is handcrafted in a local, third-generation foundry using recycled 925 silver. Fashion information verified by @ecoage #ecoloves Skin is @kjaerweis certified-organic Cream Foundation and @vapourbeauty Illusionist Concealer which is made of 70% non-GMO, organic plant ingredients and 30% minerals. Emma also revealed that she was on the cover of Vanity Fair.

 

 

In the interview, which is available to read online, Emma revealed how important books and reading is to her – a theme that is important in both the Harry Potter series and Beauty and the Beast.

Books gave me a way to connect with my father. Some of my most precious and treasured moments . . . I just remember him reading to me before bed and how he used to do all the different voices. I grew up on film sets, and books were my connection to the outside world. They were my connection to my friends back at school because if I was reading what they were reading we’d have something in common. Later in life, they became an escape, a means of empowerment, a friend I could rely on.

Emma also talks about her decision whether to keep acting or not after Potter.

I was finding this fame thing was getting to a point of no return. I sensed if this was something I was ever going to step away from it was now or never. […] I’ve been doing this since I was 10 or 11, and I’ve often thought, [‘]I’m so wrong for this job because I’m too serious; I’m a pain in the ass; I’m difficult; I don’t fit.[‘] But as I’ve got older, I’ve realized, [‘]No![‘] Taking on those battles, the smaller ones and the bigger ones, is who I am.

A new behind-the-scenes featurette made its way online as well, which you can view below! It includes scenes of Belle’s opening scene, inside the Beast’s castle, meeting “the furniture,” a very brief look at the infamous “Be Our Guest” dining scene, the romantic snowball fight, and the iconic ballroom scenes.

We attended Tom’s panel at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle later in the weekend, and Tom talked about seeing Emma in the film.

 

It blew me away. She was absolutely brilliant!

 

We sort of wish the rose he’s carrying had been for us!
