Castium Revelio: May We Have Some Updates?

by Mary Wojcicki · May 5, 2018

Welcome back to another edition of MuggleNet’s Casting News! As always, we’re bringing you the latest and greatest updates on the newest projects from our wonderful wizarding world alumni. Ready to find out what’s new this week? Castium Revelio!

First up, we have Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart)! According to ScreenRant, the actor makes a voice cameo in Avengers: Infinity War. As ScreenRant writes, it appears to be a nod to the fact that Branagh directed 2011’s Thor. For more information on Branagh’s cameo (and the possibility of spoilers), you can read the full piece here.

Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) can be seen in a new television documentary on the city of Birmingham. Titled Civilisations Stories: Innovation and Inspiration in Birmingham, the BBC One documentary aired for the first time on April 30. Birmingham Live reported on the program, which holds significance for Williams because he is from the area. In the documentary, Williams explores Birmingham’s history, including its role in the Industrial Revolution.

You can watch a trailer for the program below.

Chris Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter films, and daughter Eleanor Columbus (Susan Bones) have launched an official Instagram page for their production company together, Maiden Voyage Pictures! Chris Columbus posted the announcement to his verified Instagram page. You can follow Maiden Voyage Pictures on Instagram here.

The family-friendly animated film Stardog and Turbocat, to which Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour) lends his voice, “has sealed pre-sales in several territories” through Kaleidoscope Film Distribution, reports ScreenDaily. The film is currently in production.

A new deal between Goldfinch Studios and Cowboy Cosmonaut Productions will affect new projects from both Nighy and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin (11-year-old Tom Riddle, Half-Blood Prince), as reported by Variety. The move will reportedly bring greater support to Cowboy Cosmonaut Productions’ works, including The Fire Within (starring Fiennes-Tiffin) and Sometimes Always Never (starring Nighy).

Frank Dillane (16-year-old Tom Riddle, Half-Blood Prince) has left the television series Fear the Walking Dead, in which he had acted since 2015. While we’ll only link you to the full article from the Hollywood Reporter in order to keep from spoiling the show, Dillane did say that it was his choice to leave the show after so many years.

Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) will be holding a masterclass during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival (Festival de Cannes), according to Deadline Hollywood. The actor will be sitting down with “his longtime artistic partner,” Douglas Urbanski, for an event titled Rendez-vous with Gary Oldman. For more information about the event, visit the official website for the Festival de Cannes (in English) here.

The late Sir John Hurt (Garrick Ollivander) will be honored by his widow, Anwen, Lady Hurt, before a special preview of one of his last films, That Good Night. The Eastern Daily Press writes that Lady Hurt will introduce the screening, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8 at Cinema City in Norwich. The Eastern Daily Press additionally notes the poignancy of the role that Sir John Hurt played:

In ‘That Good Night’ – which is in part inspired by the famous Dylan Thomas poem ‘Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night’ – Sir John plays Ralph, a terminally ill screenwriter with two missions in life, to be reconciled with his son and not to be a burden to his devoted wife as he goes ‘into that good night.’

The film also has added poignancy because Sir John himself was undergoing chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer while working on it in Portugal, and he died before seeing the final cut of the movie.

For more information about the upcoming screening of That Good Night, as well as the full interview with Lady Hurt, you can click here. That Good Night will be released into UK cinemas on May 11.

David Thewlis (Remus Lupin) and Michelle Fairley (Mrs. Granger) are both set to join the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series The Feed, described by Deadline Hollywood as a “social media-infused sci-fi psychological thriller drama.” The series is based upon the novel of the same name by Nick Clark Windo.

Set in London in the near future, it centers on the British family of Lawrence Hatfield (Thewlis), the man who invented an omnipresent technology called The Feed. Implanted into nearly everyone’s brain, The Feed enables people to share information, emotions and memories instantly. But when things start to go wrong and users become murderous, the family is driven apart as they struggle to control the monster they have unleashed.

Lawrence Hatfield’s wife Meredith (Fairley) is the CEO of the powerful global mega-company which runs The Feed. Her first-born son, Tom Hatfield (Burnet), was the subject of his father’s early experiments on inserting the neural mesh that connects people to The Feed. Being his father’s guinea pig has come at a cost to their relationship, and Tom is reluctant to use the seductive technology. Tom is married to Kate (White), a young American who shares his wariness to being constantly ‘on.’ When the young couple give birth to a baby daughter, it coincides to changes to The Feed that will have dramatic consequences for the family and the whole world.

The Feed begins filming this month and is set for a global release next year.

While it’s unknown at this time if Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) will be signing on to reprise his role as Mr. McGregor, Sony Pictures is reportedly planning to make a sequel to this year’s Peter Rabbit. The Hollywood Reporter wrote about the company’s intent to make a sequel film, saying that Sony Pictures is aiming for a 2020 release.

Ezra Miller‘s (Credence Barebone) band, Sons of an Illustrious Father, has released a video for one of the songs off of their new album, to be released June 1. BroadwayWorld writes that the song, “When Things Fall Apart,” will be on the album Deus Sex Machina: Or, Moving Slowly Beyond Nikola Tesla. Miller’s mother, Marta, also collaborated on the video, which you can watch here.

Additionally, Sons of an Illustrious Father will be touring North America this summer! You can find their upcoming tour dates on their official website.

Well, everyone, that’s all we have for this week’s Casting News! We’ll be back again next week with more updates, so remember to comment below and tell us which projects interest you the most!
