Emma Watson Supports Sustainable Fashion Service Good on You

by Madison Brown · Published February 24, 2019 · Updated July 5, 2020

Emma Watson continues to show that she is someone whom we can all look up to by being outspoken about many important topics; she’s an ally for the LGBTQ community and has done much to promote gender equality, just to name a few. She has also voiced her opinion on being eco-friendly when it comes to her fashion choices and has recently become a supporter of Good on You.

Good on You is a fashion service that researches clothing brands to rate their level of sustainability and ethicality. It uses a five-point system to show users where a brand falls on a scale of sustainability, taking into account a brand’s impact on the environment, policies and practices of the treatment of workers, the use of animal by-products, and more.

The company took to its website to release a statement announcing Emma Watson’s support. Watson explained why she’s backing Good on You and actively using the service:

Fashion helps shape our identities. What we wear signifies who we are and what we stand for. I support Good On You because I need to know my clothes do not harm our precious planet or its people.

On the red carpet we’re often asked not what we are wearing, but ‘who’. It’s as if the ideas behind the clothes – the label, the designer, the collection – have more meaning than the garment itself. But there’s something missing.

There’s a bigger story to be told about the conditions in which our clothes are made, the resources that have been used and the impact they’ve had on communities.

Watson continues by describing Good on You as her “benchmark for sustainable fashion” and encourages readers to be mindful of where and how clothing their clothing is manufactured and to practice recycling and thrifting.

Going forward, Good on You will be rating what Emma Watson wears on the red carpet and more.

Have you used Good on You’s services before? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Did You Know

  • Quidditch started in the 11th century at a place called Queerditch Marsh, which is not marked on Muggle maps because wizards have made the place unplottable. Originally, it was quite a crude game played on broomsticks with just the Quaffle.
