Social Media Roundup: Staying Active and Creative

by Sarah Wylde · September 20, 2020

Welcome back! Has it been two weeks already? Wow, time is flying fast, especially if you use a Time-Turner. Get ready to catch up with some of the Wizarding World stars in this latest edition of MuggleNet’s Social Media Roundup! They posted about golfing, creative moments, remembering Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Suicide Prevention Day, and more.

On September 18, 2020, the world found out that Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Bader Ginsburg had passed away. She had served since August 1993 and was the second woman to serve on the US Supreme Court. Upon learning of her death, Zoë Kravitz (Leta Lestrange) and Ron Perlman (Gnarlack) paid tribute to the fallen heroine.

Absolutely gutted by the news that the great Ruth Bader Ginsberg has passed away at age 87. I’m sure out of respect for his time honored principle, Mitch McConnell will wait for the election before considering a replacement.

— Ron Perlman (@perlmutations) September 19, 2020

On Suicide Prevention Day, September 10, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) shared a message of support and understanding for those who have suffered and are still coping with their mental health. In his message, Felton mentions that he feels strength in admitting that he as well has struggled.

I feel stronger today. Stronger by saying I’ve suffered. I’ve struggled. I’ve silenced myself in shame. No more #SuicidePreventionDay #daylate

Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) reminded his followers that transgender and gender-diverse fans would always be welcomed in his House of ChrisNess.

Posting his hopes for everyone to have a fruitful Jewish New Year was Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy). Happy Rosh Hashanah!

It's the Jewish New Year. 5781 years of stress, running and guilt. No wonder we have bad posture.

It's supposed to be a time of rebirth, re-imagining and, over the next 10 days, of reflection.

May it be sweet and fruitful for everyone and herald the start of something better.

Given the world’s current state, Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) reminded us with a calming sunset photo that it is all right to have feelings of anxiousness and need support.

Katie Leung (Cho Chang) asked for fans’ help gifting the short animated film The Promise to young students in deprived communities. The movie, based on a book of the same name by Nicola Davies and Laura Carlin, shows them how to make their communities greener.

Tom Felton had the rendition of the song “You’ll Be Back” that he sang acoustically shared by the official Hamilton Twitter account.

Also keeping busy creatively, with her podcast, was Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown). In the trailer for the podcast that she does with her sister, they discuss if Cave looks like Fearne Cotton.

Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) showed off quite a large Immunity Chocolate bar from Wizards Magic, letting fans know that they are in stores. The company, which both he and his brother James are directors of, has multiple types of chocolate bars to choose from.

Taking a moment from her 720K walk for the Orchid Project, Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) mentioned that the project had reached 100% of its goal. But that doesn’t mean she is stoping! Tena will continue to walk the distance, and donations are still being accepted.

Since he is a cycling enthusiast, it’s no surprise that James Phelps (Fred Weasley) went out a couple of times on his bike. In one of the shared images, he is with a friend doing a 50K bike ride. In the caption of the second, Phelps mentions that next time, he is bringing glasses to protect his eyes when gravel biking.

James isn’t the only keen cyclist in the wizarding world! Commenting on a recent post from MuggleNet, Sean Biggerstaff (Oliver Wood) claimed that he was the better cyclist of the two.

I'd take him any day.

Regulars on the golf course, Tom Felton and James Phelps had a friendly competition. Both shared the same photo of Phelps holding a miniature trophy and smiling. On Felton’s image, the caption reads, “You win this time, Weasley.”

Quarantine life can make some feel like they are climbing the walls. Well, Chris Rankin was doing just that, literally.
