Oliver Masucci Joins “Fantastic Beasts” 3 Cast as Head of the International Confederation of Wizards

Oliver Masucci has revealed to German news magazine Stern that he will be playing a new character in the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts film series.

Masucci is known for being in the German Netflix series Dark, he has the lead role in the upcoming fantasy series Tribes of Europa, and he portrayed Adolf Hitler in Er ist wieder da (Look Who’s Back).

For the last five months, Masucci has been obliged to remain contractually silent about his role in Fantastic Beasts. While he didn’t reveal his character’s name in his interview with Stern, he gave us a tiny hint of what to expect from his upcoming role.

I have a magic wand and am Head of the International Confederation of Wizards, so the leader of the entire wizarding world.

Fans have been aware of the International Confederation of Wizards (ICW) since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It’s the organization responsible for the International Statute of Secrecy, and of course, we have already met another leader of the ICW (a.k.a the Supreme Mugwump), Albus Dumbledore. We already know that the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts series is set to take us to a new location, Rio de Janerio, and so the news of Masucci’s role suggests perhaps further exploration into the different wizarding nationalities.

Masucci isn’t the first actor to have kept silent about his involvement in Fantastic Beasts 3. Richard Coyle recently announced that he will also be joining the cast. Like Masucci, Coyle didn’t reveal much, only a sneaky reference toward a “handlebar mustache and beard.”

In the interview with Stern, Masucci went on to discuss how he has become friendly with his costars.

I’ve been filming at Leavesden Studios in London for five months now, on set and chatting with Mads Mikkelsen, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, and Eddie Redmayne. Mads has become a friend, and we have a lot in common. We chat to each other incessantly. We laugh a lot.

German-born Masucci went into more detail about his Danish costar (who joined the cast of Fantastic Beasts 3 to replace Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald), making a movie during a pandemic, and how he initially thought filming in another language might be difficult.

Unfortunately, shooting Fantastic Beasts 3 during a worldwide pandemic hasn’t been an easy process. With its release date pushed back to July 15, 2022, we suppose we’ll just have to hold on to our wands and sit tightly on our brooms as we wait patiently to see Masucci in action. Are you excited to see him play the Head of the International Confederation of Wizards?
