Fan Focus: Maria – October 27, 2021

by Sarah Wylde · October 27, 2021

Welcome to this week’s Fan Focus! Every two weeks, MuggleNet will introduce and highlight a Wizarding World fan. Let’s meet Maria, a Hufflepuff from Columbia who has a beautiful story about how she got into Harry Potter.

How did you become a Wizarding World fan?

Well, the story is short but cute. One day I just got up and literally asked my parents, “Why haven’t I seen or read Harry Potter?” and then that same day at night, I began to watch them. I remember very well my first reaction to the first scene was something like, “Is this the first movie of the entire saga?” I did not know which was the first [movie] at all, but I chose the correct one. As soon as that first scene began, the magical world caught me so much that I immediately loved it. After finishing the fourth movie, [Harry Potter] and the Goblet of Fire, I did the [Wizarding World] test of the Hogwarts Houses for the first time. I got Hufflepuff. After I finished seeing [Harry Potter] and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, that ending left me crying for two days; it was such an emotional ending. I immediately knew that the wizarding world of Harry Potter (and Fantastic Beasts) was what was missing in my life. It became part of my life. Later, I bought the book [Harry Potter and the] Philosopher’s Stone, and I remember my happiness to have it in my hands for the first time. And well, that’s how I was buying the others successively. My favorite [book] is [Harry Potter and] the Half-Blood Prince. When I finished the last book, I felt super sad, but I knew that it was not the end. It was just the beginning.

If you could have one prop from the set of Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, what would it be?

[This] is a VERY difficult question, because I would love to take everything. But if I have to choose, I think I would take Luna Lovegood’s lion head, because it seems to me that it is something you can’t get anywhere, and I love how it looks on her.

What is your favorite Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts memory?

Well, I have two – both are from Harry Potter. The first is when we went to the theme park. That day was simply perfect; you felt the magic in every corner of the park, and the experience was very fun – the roller coasters, the shops, Ollivander’s… everything felt so magical and cute. I would love to go again. The other was when I made my Harry Potter birthday; the decoration was so cute, and the dress that I wore (Hermione’s Yule Ball dress) was just perfect, and [it was] the best day I’ve had in years.

Have you been to the Wizarding World? If yes, what is your favorite memory? If not, what would you want to do first if you could go there?

Yesss, I have been to the theme park, and definitely my favorite moment was when I rode the roller coaster – Escape from Gringotts. It was super great every moment. You feel so much adrenaline and happiness. It was incredible.

If you could spend a day with a character from Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, who would it be and why?

I would definitely spend it with Ron Weasley because he is my favorite character in the entire saga. I identify too much with him, and for me, spending a day with him would be the best thing that could happen to me because he is simply an incredible character – and for me, one of the best. Just think, spending a whole day with Ron Weasley would be so much fun, and every moment would be one to remember the other days of your life.

What is your favorite quote from the Wizarding World?

“Of course it’s happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” ~Albus Dumbledore.
