Brazilian Actress Announces Role in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”

by Adam Poncharoensub · December 23, 2021

One of the most exciting things that fans are looking forward to in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is being able to explore more magical destinations around the world. It has been previously confirmed that not only will we be returning to the United States and the United Kingdom, but we will be exploring the wizarding world in Bhutan and China as well. And although it was previously announced and heavily hinted that we would also be visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the country was noticeably missing from a list of locations given in early October. While fans were likely disappointed by the exclusion, it didn’t completely dismiss the possibility that Newt and the gang would visit South America.

Last week, Brazilian soap opera actress Maria Fernanda Cândido announced on her Instagram that she would be playing a character named Vicência Santos in Secrets of Dumbledore. Unfortunately, Cândido didn’t provide any additional details regarding her character. Aside from landing a huge acting opportunity, it seems she was most excited about “representing Brazil” in the Wizarding World.

Aside from the addition of another lovely actor to the Fantastic Beasts franchise, we can formulate two theories regarding whether or not Brazil will be featured in Secrets of Dumbledore. The most desired outcome is that our heroes do in fact travel to Rio de Janeiro and meet up with Vicência Santos. The other, less desirable choice, but that would still likely be a valid story direction, is that Cândido’s Vicência Santos will be the one to rendezvous at any of the confirmed destinations acting as a Brazilian presence, perhaps even literally as the Brazilian delegate to the International Confederation of Wizards. It would make sense for the organization to convene to discuss Grindelwald’s proclamation of war with Muggles. If we’re lucky, it’ll be both and the International Confederation will meet in Rio de Janeiro. Of course, the highest hope is the chance to see Castelobruxo, the Brazilian wizarding school.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore hits theaters on April 15, 2022.

What do you think? Do you believe that Cândido’s casting means that we will be visiting Brazil in Secrets of Dumbledore? Let us know your theories in the comments.
