“The Batman” 2 Announced: Pattinson Set to Return to Gotham

This year’s CinemaCon saw a big announcement for all DC fans: Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) is officially signed on for a sequel to The Batman. After the huge success of the first film, we can’t wait to see how this sequel shapes up.

The chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group, Toby Emmerich, announced the second film as part of DC’s presentation at CinemaCon earlier this week and promised that Pattinson won’t be the only part of the original team to return. The writer and director of the first film, Matt Reeves, is also staying in Gotham City for the sequel. By the sounds of his speech, both will be sticking around in the universe for the foreseeable future. Reeves spoke after the announcement, stating, “Every part of this journey has been thrilling for me as a filmmaker and a huge fan of this character, and I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”

One of the biggest questions we still have is whether Pattinson will be the only Wizarding World alumnus to return to Gotham City. Colin Farrell (Percival Graves) and Zoë Kravitz (Leta Lestrange) played the Penguin and Catwoman, respectively, in The Batman, but neither has yet been confirmed as part of the sequel. We know that Farrell’s Penguin is getting an entire spin-off show that will explore Gotham from a villain’s perspective, but there are no promises of more Kravitz content.

While we don’t know whether Kravitz or Farrell will return, we’re also in the dark about every other element of the film. No name, release date, or plot details have yet been released, although fans have been searching for Easter eggs. So far, teasers about appearances from the Joker, Hush, and Bane have been discovered, but the first film’s ending and post-credits scenes left so many possibilities that anything could happen. Pattinson himself has been teasing a Court of Owls-centered plot, stating in recent interviews that he was “definitely thinking Court of Owls is probably gonna be in the sequel.”

What do you think the sequel will be about? Are you hoping to see Kravitz and Farrell back alongside Pattinson? Let us know in the comments below, and keep checking our Casting News articles for more information when it is released!
