“SpeakBeasty” Episode 153: “Thally?”

The hosts of SpeakBeasty promised an episode dedicated solely to Eulalie Hicks, and that is exactly what we’re delivering.

On this episode of SpeakBeasty, our hosts discuss the one and only Professor Eulalie Hicks, or Lally for short. We walk through all the background information we know about the character. Much of that background information comes from interviews with Jessica Williams, who portrays Lally Hicks in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Williams explains Lally’s heritage and how her Black identity is intertwined with her magical one. She also drops the nugget of information that Lally and Tina Goldstein have a “juicy” past. We knew the two were friends while at school at Ilvermorny, but what exactly does this wording mean? Williams says because of what she knows of their relationship, she wants to see more scenes with Tina and Lally in future films. We do, too!

This week’s podcast question is “What are you most interested to learn about Eulalie in future films?” Send us your thoughts and theories at SpeakBeasty@gmail.com, or reach out to us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!

I was 9 years old when I discovered the magic that is “Harry Potter.” I am a proud Hufflepuff and exceedingly good at eating, reading, being sarcastic, and over-thinking small tasks. Since I spent too much time worrying about the correct way to write this bio, this is all I was able to come up with before the deadline.
