A New Trailer and Cast Announcement Make “Doctor Who” Even More Magical

Back in May 2022, it was announced that Doctor Who would celebrate its 60th anniversary with three special episodes. We’re rapidly approaching the celebrations, with the first set to be released on November 23, 2023, meaning that we’re getting more and more exciting details, including a new trailer, interviews, and a magical cast announcement.

After months of rumors, the announcement that David Tennant, who plays Barty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter franchise, would return as the Tenth Doctor wasn’t a surprise for most. The most recent cast announcement has come as more of a surprise, however. Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout) has finally gotten her chance to join another iconic franchise. She’s voicing an alien called Beep the Meep in the anniversary episodes, and she stated, “I’m relieved I got to work on Doctor Who before I died. With sci-fi you never know. Thank you for making an old woman very happy.”  She isn’t the only new addition to the franchise, with Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper) also making their Doctor Who debuts.

Tennant himself was also recently interviewed (before the SAG strike) about his upcoming return. He told Entertainment Weekly it was “joyous” and “an unexpected treat to get to revisit something that had been such a lovely wonderful experience 15 years ago.” He also expressed his excitement to be able to return to the world of Doctor Who and “to get to have another proper runaround, in an albeit slightly different long coat.”

Not only have there been more interviews on the episodes, but we got our first trailer yesterday! The trailer gives us our first idea of how the story between Tennant’s Doctor and famous companion Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) will play out, as well as a glimpse of the new characters. Check it out below, and let us know how many Easter eggs you can spot.

The three episodes will stream throughout next month before the Doctor regenerates into the Fifteenth Doctor, who will be played by Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education). For UK viewers, the new episodes will stream on the BBC like previous seasons, while internationally, Disney+ has become the home of the iconic show. Will you be tuning in?
