How to Get Fit like Matthew Lewis

So you want to get into shape but you’re not sure where to start? Matthew Lewis was recently interviewed on the ups and downs of his fitness routine. We found inspiration in this article by Coach Magazine to get into shape―Matt Lewis style. Here’s what we took to heart from his encouraging words of wisdom:

 

1. Don’t let excuses get the best of you

When you start to think “I can’t do this,” it’s pretty easy to come up with ideas as to why you can’t do something. Think of what you use most as an excuse for putting off what you need to do and put it behind you. For Lewis, this was the infamous “jet lag” excuse! As long as you free yourself of excuses, you can do anything you set your mind to. This brings us to our next piece of advice…

2. Mental strength is just as important as physical strength

While Lewis reminisces about a particularly hard workout, he makes a very good point: Sometimes mental strength can overpower physical strength. Stop doubting yourself! If you believe that you can do it, you can!

3. Make exercise entertaining

Add an element of fun to your workout! Matt hates running, but he incorporates fun into the exercise, such as sight-seeing during a jog, or running for dear life from a herd of cows. (Okay, so that may not be “fun,” but you have to admit, that’s pretty thrilling and definitely not boring!) There are many less-dangerous activities out there, though, such as dancing!

4. Set your own goals

Make sure your goals are your own and that they are reasonable and to your benefit! Don’t aim for something that you’re not comfortable with. Lewis specifies his current physical goal, comparing it to Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool, as opposed to someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

5. It’s okay to cheat now and then

Balance is the key to health and fitness, which means it’s perfectly fine to indulge once in awhile. However, that means you have to know when to stop. For example, Matt says that his weakness is a nice, cold beer, but it always makes him crave junk food! Figure out your weakness and just pay attention to how it makes you feel. Too much of a good thing is never actually good in the long run.

That’s it! These tips seem pretty simple to follow. Maybe we’ll all start to look like Matthew Lewis pretty soon…
