MoM Elections: The Second Debate – Part 2

Should Gringotts stay in the hands of goblins after they drastically increased interest rates due to increased pressure from the goblin council to “punish” wizards for “stealing” goblin made products? Ex-Ministry of Magic Treasurer Wendelin Westerpack believes goblins’ financial power must be curbed and the wizarding reserve bank needs to allow more international wizarding banks into the market to combat Gringotts monopolization of the sector. What are the candidates’ policies regarding the wizarding banking sector?

William Waverly: I feel that the power that the goblins have does need to be curbed. Their attempt to “punish” us goes way beyond the ethics of business. We need to restrict the control that they have over our money. I do not believe, however, that we need to introduce international banks into our sector.

Reggie Stump: As a liaison officer for the Goblin Liaison office, I can honestly say that we need to work with the goblins to come to a compromise about their stolen goblin-made products and our banking needs. The goblins just want fairness and compensation for what they made for wizardkind. However, I also believe that introducing a secondary wizarding bank would only bring friendly competition.

Bianca Blishwick: History has time and time again reinforced the stereotypes humans and goblins have for one another. There’s no reason to force goblins to manage our monetary affairs for us since there are plenty of other areas of society their skills and talents may be put to use. I say we wizards should manage Gringotts and integrate a Career Committee subsection into the Goblin Liaison Office. This will eliminate the high interest rates, prevent international banks from entering the market, and help goblins truly find their place in the wizarding world.

There was an uproar after Blishwick’s final remarks, with reports of some goblins in attendance brandishing axes. Blishwick and the other candidates were escorted by security trolls out of the building. Blishwick suffered no injury.
