The “Love Actually” Cast Is Reuniting for Red Nose Day!

by Sophie Reid · February 16, 2017

UPDATE 2/22/2017:

While news of a Love Actually reunion has set the internet abuzz, many of us couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness at the reminder that Alan Rickman is no longer with us. Now, after a flurry of press about the reunion, we at least know the fate of Rickman’s character, Harry. In the film, Harry begins an affair with a woman at work while his wife Karen (played by Emma Thompson), heartbroken, watches him pull further and further away from her. Thompson won’t be appearing in the short, but script-writer Emma Freud said in 2015 that the couple stayed together after Harry’s affair – albeit not as happily as they once might have.

It’s not the most uplifting of endings for characters played by two of our most beloved Potter veterans, but it’s still kind of nice to know that in the world of Love Actually, Alan Rickman’s character lives on.

Our third Potter alumnus, Bill Nighy, will be appearing in the reunion short film.

ORIGINAL POST:

Love Actually has become a holiday classic, and here at MuggleNet, we’re particularly fond of the film since it features some of our Potter alumni, including, of course, the late Alan Rickman (Severus Snape), as well as Emma Thompson (Sybill Trelawney) and Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour). But more than that, the film features a range of different interlinked stories, with a message about love – just what we need in our lives right now.

But what happened to the characters after the end of the film?

Many questions were left unanswered, and we never thought we’d see any answers, leaving us to debate over what happened in our favorite storylines.

Writer Richard Curtis, and co-founder of the charity Comic Relief, has revealed that he will be writing a short, ten-minute sequel for this year’s Comic Relief Red Nose Day appeal. Curtis will be reuniting the original cast, including Hugh Grant, Keira Knightly, Colin Firth, Rowan Atkinson, and Liam Neeson. This charity sequel comes 14 years after the original film was released, making us all feel a lot older – and wondering what’s happened to the characters in the time that has passed.

Emma Freud, Curtis’s partner and director of Red Nose Day, revealed on Twitter that the script was still being written – and appealed for any ideas. However, filming starts today, February 16, which doesn’t leave much time to get those ideas in…

ok – big announcement… Richard is reconvening the cast of Love Actually for this year's comic relief and is making #rednosedayactually

Curtis spoke to BBC about revisiting the film and what he hopes to achieve.

I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually, but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to. We hope to make something that’ll be fun – very much in the spirit of the original film and of Red Nose Day.

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day Appeal, which was launched in the US last year, takes place in the UK this year on March 24, on BBC One. Red Nose Day Actually will air at some point during the evening – look out for a schedule nearer the time.

Which storylines do you want to see revisited? What do you hope has happened to your favorite characters? Let us know in the comments!
