Thorne and Tiffany Talk “Cursed Child” Ahead of Paperback Script Release

It’s been almost a year since the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child graced our bookshelves, and as promised, the final edition of the script (in paperback form) is set to be released on July 25, 2017. The new edition will include the finalized dialogue from the play as well as a timeline of important wizarding world events and a Potter family tree.

In anticipation of this release, Pottermore has released excerpts from an exclusive interview with writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany. In the new interview, the pair discusses scripts in general, and the Cursed Child script and cast in particular. Tiffany discussed the magic of reading a new script for the first time:

It’s the closest you’re ever going to be to an audience watching a production of this script for the first time.

Thorne, meanwhile, offered his hopes for fans reading the play:

I just hope [the fans are] able to read it as I wrote it…Jo on one shoulder and you, John, on the other – trying my best to express in every single line the emotional truth and honesty that runs through the Harry Potter books.

And for those who have only read the script? Thorne also has a great analogy:

[I]t’s better seen than read – plays are like sheet music, meant to be sung & we’ve a cast and crew of pure Beyoncé.

We couldn’t agree more, for both of the incredible casts that have taken on Cursed Child so far!
