A Harry Potter-Themed Tour in New York City You Didn’t Know Existed
Excitement is building for the New York City premiere of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child later this year, but fans who can’t wait for the show to open in April may want to check out this Upper East Side Harry Potter-inspired experience while they wait.
Founded by Evan Levy, Fable & Lark tours is offering a “Griffins, Goblets, and Gold” tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art inspired by the books. The tour takes visitors on an interactive journey and scavenger hunt through the museum to unlock rooms and artifacts that you didn’t know existed. The scavenger hunt includes looking for Horcruxes, playing games throughout the corridors, and even finding art that represents each Hogwarts House. Personally, I thought the tour was great due to the fact that Levy was able to find all of these artifacts on her own throughout the museum and showcase how Harry Potter-themed items and places are everywhere we go. It reminded me that even though it has been a long time since the last book, the magic is still alive around the world.
The tour begins by highlighting a few items and locations that resemble Hogwarts-like characteristics. Did you know that the Met has a crest like Hogwarts? The museum even has a courtyard that resembles the Great Hall during Christmas – I couldn’t stop myself from looking up to see if the night sky was there because it resembled the Hall so much!
Along the tour, you are also able to see an indoor Gringotts, the Hall of Prophecy, and other fun surprises. The Hall of Prophecy was extremely interesting due to the fact that it houses hundreds of small items that oddly resemble the scenes from the movies. During the scavenger hunt, tour members are paired into teams to discover the three hidden items around the museum. I won’t give them away, but the items closely resemble the Horcruxes and some of the characters.
The tour is good for all ages and is even fine for solo travelers. Evan will even have free giveaways for each member of the tour, including a fun surprise at the end of the tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore NYC with a little bit of extra magic while they’re there and is longing to experience the Met from a new perspective through a Potter lens.
