Harry Potter and the Cursed Child received ten nominations for this year’s 72nd Tony Awards, which honor the best of Broadway. The Tony Awards aired live on CBS on June 10 and were hosted by previous nominees Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban. During the show, Bareilles used a wand to cast the Wand-Lighting Charm and the Fire-Making Spell (Lumos and Incendio, respectively), before cast members came out and used magic to replace Groban with Jamie Parker, wearing a suit and Harry’s scar, who introduced presenter Patti LuPone. Cursed Child won six awards!

Best Play
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two wins! The cast and crew took to the stage to accept the award, giving J.K. Rowling a loving thanks.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play
Jamie Parker (Harry Potter) lost to Andrew Garfield, who is starring in Angels in America.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play
Anthony Boyle (Scorpius Malfoy) lost to Nathan Lane, who is appearing in Angels in America.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play
Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger) lost to Laurie Metcalf, who is appearing in Three Tall Women.
Best Direction of a Play
John Tiffany wins! This is his second Tony Award; he first won in 2012 for Once. In his acceptance speech, Tiffany thanked choreographer Steven Hoggett and had the audience sing "Happy Birthday" to his boyfriend.
Best Choreography
Steven Hoggett lost to Justin Peck, who choreographed the revival of Carousel.
Best Scenic Design of a Play
Christine Jones wins! She previously won in 2010 for American Idiot.
Best Costume Design of a Play

Best Sound Design of a Play
Gareth Fry wins! Fry, along with Pete Malkin, received a special Tony Award in 2017 for his work on The Encounter.
Best Lighting Design of a Play
Neil Austin wins! He previously won in 2010 for Red. That same year, he was also nominated for Hamlet, in which Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald's Dumbledore, Jude Law, starred.
