“Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” Celebrates Halloween with a “Sinister Twist”

by Gretchen Roesch · October 8, 2018

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery developer Jam City loves to give players new content, and now we have another special event that is perfect for everyone who loves fall. Starting October 8, Hogwarts Mystery will have “festive flair” and an “autumn flavor” as the game celebrates Halloween.

Josh Yguado, Jam City President and COO, commented on the new seasonal content.

This October, we’re exploring the darker side of Hogwarts. From the Hallowe’en feast in the Great Hall to our in-game events and side quests, players will have the chance to experience a full month of October festivities, ranging from fun to fearsome.

Players, along with staff and school ghosts, will prepare for the Halloween feast in the Great Hall, which has been appropriately decorated with pumpkins and “spooky decor.”

Then, in mid-October players will have the chance to pursue a side quest that introduces a “sinister, time-sensitive twist to the story.” According to Jam City, “players will need to utilize their full arsenal of defensive spells, from Hex-Deflection to the [S]tunning [S]pell, Stupefy, as dark forces arrive on Hogwarts’ grounds upon the full moon.”

There will also be a special Duelling Club event, in which players who use the Melofors Jinx will temporarily transform their opponents’ heads into pumpkins.

This special event sounds like the perfect October celebration: new content, new quests, and new duels! Will you be transforming your opponents’ heads into pumpkins? Will you defend the Hogwarts grounds from dark forces? Let us know how it goes!

Press Release

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Celebrates the Dark Arts with Halloween Content

Who: Jam City, a Los Angeles-based mobile games studio, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s Portkey Games, a label dedicated to creating new Wizarding World mobile and video game experiences that place the player at the center of their own adventure, inspired by J.K. Rowling’s original stories.

What: In the hit mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, players are exposed to the darker side of the Wizarding World, facing many dangers during their Hogwarts
education. While attending classes, players delve into an unfolding investigation of their brother’s disappearance, leading them to the mysteries of the Cursed Vaults. From facing treacherous Boggarts in Year Three to exploring the perils of the Forbidden Forest in Year Four, the Dark Arts are present amidst the safety of classes and celebrations at the venerable school.

October begins in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery with festive flair as students, staff, and spectres prepare for the Hallowe’en feast. The Great Hall is now adorned with
pumpkins and spooky decor, and the ghosts of Hogwarts – Nearly Headless Nick, the Fat Friar, the Bloody Baron, and the Grey Lady – have assembled for this highly anticipated annual event. But a shadow falls on the proceedings as a seasonal side quest begins mid-month, introducing a sinister, time-sensitive twist to the story. Players will need to utilize their full arsenal of defensive spells, from Hex-Deflection to the stunning spell Stupefy, as dark forces arrive on Hogwarts’ grounds upon the full moon.

As this seasonal sidequest takes hold, players can also put their defensive skills to the
test in a special Duelling Club event. Using the Melofors Jinx, players will be able to
temporarily transform their opponents’ heads into a pumpkin, bringing autumn flavor to this recurring in-game event.

Quote: “This October, we’re exploring the darker side of Hogwarts,” said Josh Yguado, Jam City President and COO. “From the Hallowe’en feast in the Great Hall to our in-game events and side quests, players will have the chance to experience a full month of October festivities, ranging from fun to fearsome.”

Background: Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is the first mobile game where players can create their own character and experience life as a Hogwarts student. In the narrative adventure with RPG elements, players will create a personalized student avatar, attend classes, learn magical skills, and form friendships or rivalries with other students. In the game, players make pivotal decisions that influence their character’s story arc at Hogwarts. The game features a new encounter system where player decisions and actions impact their quests, allowing Harry Potter fans to create their own legacy as a witch or wizard.
