“Cursed Child” San Francisco Character Portraits Released

by Lucy O'Shea · October 12, 2019

Previews for the San Francisco production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child are fast approaching. But before the cast takes to the stage for the first time on Wednesday, October 23 at the Curran Theatre, fans got their first glimpse of the production with the traditional Cursed Child character portraits.

First, let’s take a look at San Francisco’s very own Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, who are played by John Skelley, David Abeles, and Yanna McIntosh. As previously reported, Skelley and Abeles are familiar with the world of Cursed Child, with both actors having appeared in the Broadway production.

Skelley was previously the understudy for the character of Harry Potter in New York.

Abeles was part of the Cursed Child ensemble cast on Broadway and will be taking on the role of Ron Weasley in San Francisco.

McIntosh is new to the world of Cursed Child and will be playing Hermione Granger in the San Francisco production. She has an extensive career on both stage and screen, appearing in theater productions such as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Antony and Cleopatra and on television shows such as Suits and Riverdale.

Rounding up the character portraits of the Potter family are Angela Reed (Ginny Potter) and Benjamin Papac (Albus Potter). Reed is another familiar face to fans of Cursed Child since she was a member of the original Broadway cast.

The role of Albus Potter will be Papac’s professional stage debut, but he has previously made a number of television appearances, including a recurring role in Netflix’s Greenhouse Academy.

Completing the character portraits for the Granger-Weasley family is Folami Williams, who is taking on the role of Rose Granger-Weasley. Like most members of the Wizarding World family, Williams has acted in a number of productions of Shakespeare’s work, including Off-Broadway productions of Julius Ceaser and Othello.

Last, but by no means least, is San Francisco’s Malfoy family. Lucas Hall is pictured as Draco Malfoy and Jon Steiger as Scorpius Malfoy. Although new to the wizarding world, Hall has previously appeared on Broadway in productions of Farinelli and the King and King Charles III.

Steiger has a number of theater credits to his name, including a national tour of the family musical Skippy John Jones; Snow What?!  and he is also a producer and host of the podcast Not Yet Famous. Before joining the San Francisco cast, Steiger was an usher at the Lyric Theatre, home of the Broadway production of Cursed Child!

The excitement is building for the newest production of Cursed Child since even more fans will soon get the chance to see these new faces take on the next generation of the wizarding world.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son, Albus, must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
