Social distancing protocols mean that we should stay inside to help stop the spread of COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop having fun and interacting with other Potter fans.

Child.org, a charity based in the United Kingdom, is taking its popular Harry Potter pub quiz online on Saturday, March 21, at 6 p.m. GMT.

Wizardry: A Spectacular Quarantine Quiz will bring Potter fans together as they test their knowledge of the wizarding world and raise money for charity from the comfort of their own homes. The Spectacular Pub Quizzes team at Child.org has been running pub quizzes in London since 2017, but this is the first time the team will be taking its quiz into the virtual world, offering those in isolation a chance to connect with others:

Our Spectacular Quarantine Quiz will be really good fun, connecting people in isolation all over the world. We hope fans of Harry Potter, and regulars at our Spectacular Pub Quizzes, will enjoy doing something positive to support our small charity through a really difficult time. Whether you’re a big Harry Potter fan, or just enjoy silly events, this event will offer something for everyone.

Due to the impact of this outbreak of coronavirus, Child.org has recently seen a drop in income. Despite this, this small charity is working hard to protect the communities it works with in Kenya. To help raise money to respond to the challenges presented by COVID-19, Child.org is asking for a suggested donation of £5 to join the quiz.

Anyone with an Internet connection is welcome to join the quiz on Saturday evening. There will be trivia questions to suit all levels, as well as games, puzzles, and music questions.

To sign up for the quiz, head to the Spectacular Pub Quizzes website and sign up for the mailing list. You will be sent a link to the live quiz on Saturday.

The Spectacular Pub Quizzes team is hoping to move most of its quizzes online, so keep your eyes peeled for other pop-culture and fandom-based quizzes, from Friends to the Office, and even Sherlock!

Press Release

Child.org take popular Harry Potter Pub Quiz online. Introducing: Wizardry: A Spectacular Quarantine Quiz

Child.org will run a live, interactive online version of their popular immersive Harry Potter pub quiz this Saturday. Potterheads from all over the world will have the chance to test their knowledge against the global fandom from the safety of their homes.

Simply sign up at spectacularpubquizzes.com and to receive the link to join the fun at 6 pm on Saturday 21 March. The quiz will run as an interactive event - and anyone with a phone or laptop with an [I]nternet connection will be able to join and play along. Child.org will be asking for a suggested donation of £5 to join the quiz.

Quizzards can expect live interaction, games, puzzles, music tracks, and Harry Potter trivia ranging from Hufflepuff-level to the fiendish difficulty of NEWTS. The quiz will be presented by the brilliant Chris Yarnell.

Fancy dress is actively encouraged - quizzers will share photos of their outfits with each other through social media.

Child.org announced a serious loss in income this week, with valuable revenue from events and travel vanishing in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. At the same time, they are acting fast in Kenya to respond to the crisis and protect the communities they are working with by arming them with vital health information.

CEO Thomas Muirhead said “Our Spectacular Quarantine Quiz will be really good fun, connecting people in isolation all over the world. We hope fans of Harry Potter, and regulars at our Spectacular Pub Quizzes, will enjoy doing something positive to support our small charity through a really difficult time. Whether you’re a big Harry Potter fan, or just enjoy silly events, this event will offer something for everyone.”

With charities around the UK scrambling to capitalise on digital event fundraising, this is one of the first live fundraising events to launch in the wake of the coronavirus. It is the first time the Spectacular Pub Quizzes team at Child.org have attempted a digital version of their popular quizzes, which have been regular sell[-]out events in London since 2017.

The team plan to launch virtual versions of their other themed quizzes as soon as possible, with virtual events for fans of Friends, The Office, Gavin and Stacey, and many more.

To join the event, visit spectacularpubquizzes.com. You can also support by spreading the word on social media - invite friends to the Facebook event here.
