Events Roundup: Wizards-Only Bars, Painting Classes, and Bubble Bingo

by Aly Kirk · October 23, 2020

Halloween is right around the corner, and you know what that means – the witching hour (and the time to binge every single Harry Potter movie in full costume) is almost upon us. Grab your butterbeer because we are going to break down some very fun things for you to do during the rest of October. Boo! Did we get you? No? Oh, well. Anyway, check out this week’s Events Roundup.

No Muggles Allowed in This Bar

The Muggle-less Bar in Houston, Texas, has opened its doors and is ready for you to have a good time. Hagrid would be proud because the entire venue looks as though he was in charge of decorating. But food, drink, and decor are not the only things special about this bar. Families are granted the opportunity to take some wonderful photos, create their very own Polyjuice Potions, and have a Golden Snitch hunt. Once the clock hits 8:30, however, the bar becomes a 21-and-older venue and Harry Potter–themed cocktails and food are available to enjoy as well. The Muggle-less Bar will be open to the public from now until November 8. Tickets to get in start at $20 per child and $30 per adult, and precautions against COVID-19 are in place. For more information, times, and tickets, you can check out the event page online.

When Harry Potter and Van Gogh Meet

Group painting classes are a fantastic way to get your friends together for a night of creativity. This class takes things to a whole new level, though. The Social Creative in Braddon, Australia, is merging the art of Vincent Van Gogh and the majesty of Hogwarts Castle into one painting. The whole group is taught step by step to create this masterpiece, and by the end of the night, you’ll have a new piece to hang on your walls. It would be pretty cool if the painting started talking back to you. The class takes place on October 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $60 and can be found online.

Wizarding Week at Stone Town Brews

To celebrate Halloween and Harry Potter, Stone Town Brews in Buckhannon, West Virginia, decided to dedicate an entire week to bringing the two themes together. From October 26 to November 1, Stone Town Brews is all about Wizarding Week. Themed drinks and food will be available to customers throughout the week. The butterbeer, Gillyweed soda, and witches brews are all looking very delicious, and the desserts are perfect for an Instagram picture. House banners have been used to decorate the walls of the establishment. For more information, check out Stone Town Brews’s Facebook page.

Wands and Wizards Trivia

Harry Potter trivia nights are a familiar event to the roundup, and we love telling you about them! Prove yourself a Potter know-it-all at the Wands and Wizards Trivia Night at the Madison Room in Clarksville, Tennessee. Players of all ages are welcome and encouraged to dress up for the occasion. It’s free to join in, and prizes are available for the winners. Wands and Wizards will be on October 30 at 7:00 p.m., so brush up on your Harry Potter knowledge beforehand. You can find more information on the event Facebook page.

Harry Potter Halloween at Brown Library

Drive-by celebrations are a trademark of 2020, thanks to COVID-19, and Brown Library in Washington, North Carolina, is hosting a similar event for Halloween. On October 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., families will have the opportunity for a Harry Potter Halloween drive-by experience. Library staff will be dressed up as characters from the books to pass out goody bags to kids filled with some fun things. For more information, you can check out the library website or call in advance.

Bubble Bingo

The Foundry nightclub in Torquay, England, says it’s taking things to a whole new level this Halloween with bubble bingo. Guests will be able to enjoy delicious drinks, a Golden Snitch, and peppermint toads, and DJ Snape will be dropping some sweet tunes. This event will take place on October 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and tickets vary in price. For more information, you can check out the event page online.

That’s all we have for this week’s Events Roundup. Are you planning on attending any of these events? If you do, drop us a line and let us know how it goes!

If you’re hosting an upcoming magical event, you can submit it to be included in a future Events Roundup by sending all relevant information to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com.

Did You Know

When Arthur Weasley takes Harry Potter to the Ministry of Magic, they must first dial a secret code into a telephone keypad. He enters the number 62442. The letters underneath those numbers on a standard mobile phone spell out the word “magic.”

Potter History

July 11, 2007 – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens in United States theaters.

Potter Quote

“Well – it’s just that you seem to be laboring under the delusion that I am going to – what is the phrase? – come quietly. I am afraid I am not going to come quietly at all, Cornelius. I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban. I could break out, of course – but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of things I would rather be doing.”
