Quiz: What Are You Doing with That Time-Turner?

by Emily Lawrence · July 17, 2021

You happen to come across a stray Time-Turner. Perhaps it was missed in the clean-up after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, or perhaps it’s simply fate, but there it is: a tiny, simple thing in the palm of your hand. Now there’s only one question remaining… What are you actually going to do with it? Choose your favorite answer from the quiz questions listed below. Then simply count up which letter you picked the most to find out what will happen next.

1. Do you keep it?

A: I think I’ll turn it in to the Ministry – there’s no way that I want the weight of that responsibility.

B: I’m keeping it for now – you never know when a quick dip into the past will come in handy.

C: Of course I’m keeping it! This is a Time-Turner we’re talking about.

2. What would you use it for first?

A: I don’t want to mess with timelines or anything, but it sure would be useful to get on top of my to-do list?

B: I’m off to talk with a long-lost famous wizard. Meeting the founders of Hogwarts would be so cool!

C: I’m on a one-person mission to right the wrongs of the past. Hopefully, it doesn’t mess up the timeline too much.

3. If you kept it long-term, how would you use it on a daily basis?

A: I’d use it to spread a bit of kindness. I’d live every day normally, then go back in time every so often and live a day paying attention to the needs of others.

B: I’d use it to gain more time so that I can get on top of my work and studies. A few extra hours would be so great to get ahead with my career!

C: This is a great opportunity for a career change – think of it, a wizarding spy, or even burglar with time on their side! You could scope out a location, create a distraction, and then jump back in time and complete the mission for real – nobody would see it coming!

4. Who are you bringing with you on your trips into the past?

A: Only my closest friends and family – I don’t want this going public.

B: I’m going to use it to give people a last moment with their deceased loved ones.

C: I’m not trusting anybody but myself to use this thing!

5. Are you worried about how you might impact the timeline?

A: Absolutely. I don’t want to change it for the worse!

B: Yes, but I’m going to be super discreet – nobody will ever know that I was there out of my own time.

C: Not really – one person can’t mess up our whole reality; don’t be ridiculous.

Mostly As: You use the Time-Turner hesitantly, but with only the best intentions.

You’re not sure that you should even use this Time-Turner. After all, there are a lot of ethical questions to be thought through before testing it out. But if you are to use it, you could potentially bring a lot of good into the world, helping those around you with your extra time. Just remember that you don’t necessarily need a Time-Turner to make an impact on those around you.

Mostly Bs: You use the Time-Turner to gain experiences you would never have otherwise.

You’re fully aware of the risks of a Time-Turner, but that’s not going to stop you from using it every so often. After all, who could pass up the opportunity to meet famous past wizards or to help you ace an important exam? This Time-Turner is going to change your life for the better.

Mostly Cs: You use the Time-Turner to its full capacity – let’s go for it!

The Time-Turner you’ve found is something powerful and precious – and you’re going to make the most of it. This is a gift that you’ll guard carefully but are not afraid to use. Maybe you’ll right past wrongs or gain fame and fortune. But beware changing the course of the past: You may affect your own present and future!
