You Can Secretly Order Butterbeer at Dairy Queen

by Georgia Murgatroyd · September 14, 2021

Since we Muggles are unable to pop down to the Three Broomsticks or the Leaky Cauldron for a butterbeer, we have to turn to Dairy Queen instead.

An employee of Dairy Queen and avid TikTok user – @thedairyqueenking – has shared a hack of how to order butterbeer at the American chain. It is an unofficial secret item on the menu and is known to staff as the “Butterbeer Blizzard” ice cream treat. So unless you know how to order it, you wouldn’t be able to. It has even been featured in People since it’s become a very popular order.

Butterbeer is one of the most popular drinks in the wizarding world, alongside the ever-iconic firewhisky and pumpkin juice. Let’s be honest – a Harry Potter film simply wouldn’t be a Harry Potter film without a scene of Harry, Ron, and Hermione and friends sipping on a butterbeer, or even just mentioning the drink.

To get a customized Blizzard ice cream treat with a butterbeer flavor, Dairy Queen customers simply have to order a Blizzard with vanilla syrup, butterscotch syrup, Butterfinger pieces, and some whipped cream to top it off with.

Some comments on the popular TikTok video stated that some Dairy Queen stores don’t stock butterscotch syrup but caramel would be a great alternative, if necessary.

Dairy Queen is not the only chain serving unofficial butterbeer items – Starbucks also has secret Harry Potter drinks. Each drink has to be customized, but there are certainly a lot of options to choose from, whether you’re fancying a Gryffindor Frappucino or Dumbledore’s Blended Sherbet Lemon-ade.

We need to sample the “Butterbeer Blizzard” immediately! Who else is running to their nearest Dairy Queen right now?
