Social Media Roundup: Let’s All Go to the Pumpkin Patch

by Lucy O'Shea · October 31, 2021

Welcome back to another edition of MuggleNet’s Social Media Roundup. Wizarding World stars have been getting into the spirit of Halloween by donning costumes and picking pumpkins. There’s also been a number-one movie, climate change action, travel adventures, and more, so grab a cup of pumpkin juice and get ready to catch up on all the latest things from your favorite witches and wizards.

First up, Emma Watson returned to Instagram! Since returning, Emma has shared a post every day to her account in the build-up to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) to highlight the work of activists and artists shining a light on protecting the environment. As well as sharing others’ work, she posted about her “empowering” experience of learning skills behind the camera in lockdown.

Emma met and interviewed Al Gore, an American politician and environmentalist, who is one of her idols in the fight against climate change.

It’s been over two weeks since Evanna Lynch’s memoir, The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting: The Tragedy and the Glory of Growing Up, was published, and she’s still coming to terms with the fact that her friends and family are reading her book.

Speaking of Evanna’s family and friends, James Phelps (Fred Weasley) spotted a copy of her book in his local bookstore.

That’s not the only thing James has been up to recently. He got into the Halloween spirit by visiting a pumpkin patch. Do you think he picked up a pumpkin to carve into a jack-o-lantern or to make pumpkin pasties?

Also celebrating this spooky season was Scarlett Hefner (Pansy Parkinson). She shared a photo of herself and her daughter on a visit to a pumpkin patch.

Luke Youngblood (Lee Jordan) got into the Halloween spirit with a Cupid costume.

Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) shared a behind-the-scenes moment from his film A Cure for Wellness. While not strictly for Halloween, this magical movie make-up gives off plenty of spooky vibes.

Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) took a relaxed approach to his costume, which was actually for a fancy-dress birthday party. In response to a follower, he revealed that the costume was supposed to be iconic school-skipper Ferris Bueller but that many people thought he was Arthur Dent from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Going to a fancy dress birthday tonight, and just found the perfect excuse to go in my PJs and a dressing gown 👌👌

— Chris (F)Rankinstein (@chrisrankin) October 30, 2021

😂😂 it was Ferris Beuller but everyone’s assumed Arthur Dent and I like that better 😂😂

Poppy Corby-Tuech (Vinda Rosier) and Victoria Yeates (Bunty) spent some time checking out the gigantic wand installation at Leicester Square, London. The installation features nine wands from characters from Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and is 15 feet (4.5 meters) tall, forming a 60-foot (18-meter) walkway.

David Tennant (Barty Crouch Jr.) has been getting ready to film the second season of Good Omens. His wife, actress Georgia Tennant, posted a photo showing him with the iconic red hair of his character, Crowley.

Also in the midst of working on a TV show is Oliver Phelps (George Weasley), who shared a series of photos from filming his new travel show. His most recent adventure took the team to Poland, where they visited Kraków and Zakopane.

On a different kind of adventure was Matthew Lewis, who attempted to transport a cardboard cutout of soccer player Raphael Dias Belloli across the United States from Los Angeles to Orlando. Don’t worry; it made it in one piece!

And finally, Warwick Davis (Griphook/Professor Flitwick) took to his social media to raise awareness of World Dwarfism Day.

I’d like to mark #worldDwarfismDay by encouraging everyone with dwarfism to celebrate who they are with great pride and ask that the world accepts their difference, treating them with respect as valued members of society. Thank you x pic.twitter.com/rrr8yXGJRo

That’s it for this Social Media Roundup! Check back in two weeks’ time to see what your favorite stars of the Wizarding World have been up to.

It’s high time I paid homage to the mighty MuggleNet. Where to start? I love the design, (I currently favour the ‘Dementor’ layout), the polls (I actually voted in the ‘Who’s the Half-Blood Prince?’ one), the pretty-much-exhaustive information on all books and films, the wonderful editorials (more insight there than in several companion volumes I shall not name), 101 Ways to Annoy Lord Voldemort (made me laugh aloud), the Wall of Shame (nearly as funny as some of the stuff I get)… pretty much everything. Webmaster Emerson, Eric, Jamie, Damon, Ben, Matthew, Rachel, Jaymz and Sharon, I salute you.

Did You Know

When Arthur Weasley takes Harry Potter to the Ministry of Magic, they must first dial a secret code into a telephone keypad. He enters the number 62442. The letters underneath those numbers on a standard mobile phone spell out the word “magic.”
