Will Dumbledore Appear in “Fantastic Beasts”?

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, with information about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them abound, has hit store shelves! Although Fantastic Beasts centers around characters whom we haven’t yet met, it sounds like a very notable cameo could happen at some point!

While the article in Entertainment Weekly warns that we shouldn’t get ourselves too excited to see younger versions of familiar characters “yet, anyway,” we have plenty of reason to be:

A line of dialogue in Fantastic Beasts references a wizard you may have heard of – some guy named Dumbledore.

Knowing J.K. Rowling, we shouldn’t have to worry:

If Beasts is a success, though, more movies are planned, with Rowling likely writing the scripts. (In her usual fashion, she already has the next two mapped out.)

Additionally, the article says,

Down the road, [executive producer David] Heyman hints, we shouldn’t be surprised to see a familiar face or two.

Since Dumbledore was born in 1881, he would be 45 in 1926, the year in which Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set. While he might not make an appearance in the first film of the series, we’re already left wondering about what role Dumbledore might play in Newt Scamander’s travels and who might be cast to portray him.

Would you like to see a younger Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts? Who else do you think might make an appearance? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!

Why not Fawkes? Headmaster Dippet? Other headmasters of Hogwarts? It’s a fantastic beast is it not? What about Grindlewald? Someone from the Malfoy/Black family? Maybe some ghosts from Hogwarts? I would be delighted to meet Peeves. What about Dumby’s family? Or that Ministry of magic examiner who examined Dumbledore in his O.W.L.s?? It seems very likely there will be some people from the MoM involved.

Am guessing it would have to be Ministry-related characters, unless it was custom for wizards to travel all over the world in the ’20s (or always, even)?

I don’t see why Gambon couldn’t return as Dumbledore. Deageing in Half Blood Prince worked well and special and makeup effects get better each year. Unless he has to be as young as Redmayne looks, then it’s a Bilbo situation.
