“Potter” items to be auctioned by Sotheby’s

If you’re feeling particularly generous this holiday season, Sotheby’s may have the perfect gift for Potter fans – if you have a few thousand pounds to spare! The British auction house is having a huge sale, to be held on December 9, which features some exclusive Potter items.

The sale is entitled “English Literature, History, Children’s Books and Illustrations Including Eric Gill – The Felix Dennis Collection,” and the full catalog is comprised of almost 300 items.

The first Harry Potter lot consists of three of J.K. Rowling’s uncorrected proofs: an autographed copy of Chamber of Secrets and two copies of Prisoner of Azkaban, as pictured.

The other lot is a larger collection of memorabilia, including a complete set of the Potter books, all signed first editions, alongside “other volumes and ephemera” relating to the series. Tickets from the world premiere of the Sorcerer’s Stone film, a ticket from the book launch of Half-Blood Prince, and an invitation to the launch of The Tales of Beedle the Bard are just a few of the items up for grabs as part of this lot.

Shakespeare, James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Charles Darwin, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are just some of the other famous names represented at the auction, with many rare and first editions of their works available. There are also two Tolkien illustrations by John Blanche and various Winnie the Pooh illustrations by E.H. Shepherd up for sale.
