WARNING:
The following video and interview contains some mild set spoilers for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
There’s not long to go until Harry Potter and the Cursed Child officially opens on July 30. As we get closer to the release date, Pottermore has released a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the magical set for the play.
Christine Jones, the set designer for the play, and a Tony award-winning designer, spoke about the emotions involved in taking on such a big project.
I was overwhelmed. I didn’t expect to get as emotional as I did. But I think we all have been working on this for over a year and just have so much invested in it.
There’s just this feeling that we’re working with people we love, on something we love, for people we love. And there’s a lot of emotions that have become buried within the fabric on the making of this.
In a video released, Jones talks about the craftsmanship behind the set and the magic of seeing it all come together in rehearsals. Check out the video below if you’re interested in seeing a hint of elements from the set – including models of the set created to help the designers bring their ideas to life.
