Bottle Fame and Brew Glory: Join Alia Bhatt and Alec Baldwin for Chapter 8 of “Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone”

This week has brought us not one, but two more installments of Harry Potter at Home’s reading of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone/Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Yesterday, Olivia Colman and a few special guests brought Chapter 7 to life. Today, actress Alia Bhatt is joined by actor Alec Baldwin and his daughter for a special reading of Chapter 8, “The Potions Master.”

Bhatt was recently named on Forbes magazine’s 30 Under 30 list in Asia and is one of India’s most well-known award-winning actresses. Incredibly, Bhatt has only recently delved into the world of Harry Potter. She told Wizarding World Digital that it’s thanks to the coronavirus pandemic that she has finally had time to start the series:

It wasn’t until lockdown in India that Harry, Hogwarts and the wizarding world became regular fixtures in my life. Somehow, despite the fierce insistence of my sister, life always intervened, and I never quite got around to befriending the books. But [-] confined to my home – I journeyed to Hogwarts with Harry and was transported to a world of endless possibilities.

And just like magic, that was when I was asked to be a part of Harry Potter [a]t Home. I didn’t quite believe in magic until two months ago – but now – thanks to Harry [-] I do. 10 million points to Gryffindor.

Joining Bhatt for Chapter 8 is actor Alec Baldwin (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, 30 Rock) and his daughter Carmen. The pair (adorably) bring to life the Daily Prophet article that is featured in the chapter.

For Baldwin and his daughter, taking part in Harry Potter at Home has allowed them to share their love for the wizarding world:

My daughter and I love Harry Potter. It’s been such a pleasure to be a part of the Harry Potter [a]t Home readings for everyone to enjoy whilst we are all confined at home – happy listening.

As always, the chapter video, activities, and further reading can be found on the Wizarding World website. An audio-only version of the chapter can also be found on Spotify.

I was given a copy of Philosopher's Stone in 2001, and instantly, I was hooked. Since then, my passion for Potter has been equaled only by my passion for fair access to education (and watching motorsport). A spell I wish could exist in the Muggle world is the summoning charm because this Hufflepuff is not a "particularly good finder"!
