UPDATED: Harry Potter Book Night 2021 Theme Revealed

by Mary Wojcicki · November 13, 2020

Harry Potter Book Night will be returning for its seventh year in 2021, and it turns out that the theme for this next year’s celebrations was quietly announced about a month ago.

Bloomsbury unveiled the theme for Harry Potter Book Night 2021 in a video posted to the KidsBloomsbury Facebook page on October 16, and it is none other than Diagon Alley! The video itself shows children excitedly receiving letters from Hogwarts before the reveal is made, as you can watch below.

Harry Potter Book Night 2021 will be held on February 4, 2021. The official website for the event provides more information about what fans of the series can expect from Harry Potter Book Night.

We have created a brand[-]new Harry Potter Book Night kit for 2021, filled with amazing activities, event ideas and practical resources themed around Diagon Alley – in it you’ll find everything you need to host a spectacular celebration. Given the current situation, and that large-scale gatherings may not be possible at the time of Book Night, we’ve ensured that the activities and ideas can be easily adapted to any group size, and as many as possible will be suitable for virtual online events.

The theme for Harry Potter Book Night 2020 was the Triwizard Tournament, and MuggleNet staff members in three different countries reported on the celebrations. If you’re planning to host an event for 2021, registration for event kits is available now on the Harry Potter Book Night website.

Have you hosted or participated in a Harry Potter Book Night event before? Are you looking forward to Harry Potter Book Night 2021? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

UPDATE (January 22, 2021):

It has been announced that Harry Potter Book Night 2021 will take place on a new date! In relation to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, Bloomsbury has moved this year’s date to June 24. A statement is included on the Harry Potter Book Night website.

In light of the current lockdown situation, when physical events are not possible and teachers are working hard to provide remote learning, Bloomsbury has elected to move the date of Harry Potter Book Night 2021 from Thursday 4th February to Thursday 24th June. Registration for the kit will be extended through to the summer and it is hoped that the majority of events can be moved to this date. The 2021 kit will remain available for any UK or international organisers who have already planned virtual events for the February date.

Bloomsbury is providing resources for educators who wish to hold Harry Potter-themed activities for their students in February.
