Old Locker Area at Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in Orlando Converted to Retail Space

Universal Orlando Resort has been working its magic, building a brand-new locker area at the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, located in Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

When queueing for the ride, guests were previously asked to store their belongings in lockers in a tight, small, and often overcrowded area, which is not ideal for any wizard, witch, or Muggle alike. The new locker area is much easier to access in a safe, socially distanced manner. While this means the old locker area is no longer needed, the empty space is not going to waste.

It has been transformed into an extension of Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods, a shop that sells exclusive Harry Potter props, memorabilia, and even face masks.

The shop’s extension features a different corner for each Hogwarts House: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each section contains clothing, memorabilia, and even Christmas decorations, including baubles, wreaths, and ribbons, in the colors of each House.

The shop is currently decorated for Christmas, with sparkling Christmas trees and garlands lighting up the room and its archways. Below is a video tour of the shop’s expansion, filmed by the staff at WDW News Today.

Christmas at Universal Orlando Resort is going to be slightly different this year due to the safety and social distancing guidelines in place. This includes “The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle,” which involves a magnificently large Christmas tree, carols from the Hogwarts ghosts, students riding broomsticks, building snowmen, and re-creating the Yule Ball, all surrounded by magical sounds of the season. Due to social distancing requirements, this annual event is available in a limited capacity, with only those taking part in Universal’s Holiday Tour getting the chance to watch the exclusive showing.

There are many more exciting activities you can take part in if you are planning to go during this festive season, including visiting Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, which are covered in holiday decorations, having a mug of hot butterbeer, and exploring the exciting new extension of Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods.

You can also find live entertainment in the form of yuletide performances by the Frog Choir in Hogsmeade and a special show from Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees.

Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort is currently taking place daily until January 3, 2021.
