Golden Globe Nominations Include Several Wizarding World Stars

The nominations for the 78th annual Golden Globes have been announced, and we’re thrilled to see some familiar names and faces from the Wizarding World be in the talent pool.

Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) is nominated for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for his role in Mank. This film also has a nomination for Best Picture Drama. Another Round, which stars Mads Mikkelsen (Gellert Grindelwald), is up for Best Picture – Foreign Language. Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) has snagged a nomination for Best Supporting Actress – Television for her work on The Crown, which itself is nominated for Best Drama Series. Brendan Gleeson (Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody) is nominated for Best Supporting Actor – Television for his role on The Comedy Rule

Some honorable mentions include five nominations for The Trial of the Chicago Seven, which Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) stars in. This film is up for Best Picture Drama and four other awards. The Queen’s Gambit, which features Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) is up for two awards, including Best Television Motion Picture.

Of course, we can’t leave out the magnificent composers who help make us truly feel like we’re there with the actors. Best Score Motion Picture features the talents of Alexandre Desplat, who worked on the score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, for his work on the film The Midnight Sky. James Newton Howard is nominated as well for his work on News of the World. Howard has scored works for the Fantastic Beasts films

The Crown and Mank have the most nominations throughout all categories, with each receiving six. You can see the full list of nominees for all categories on the Golden Globes website. The awards will take place virtually on Sunday, February 28, with Amy Poehler broadcasting live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, and Tiny Fey from the Rainbow Room in New York, New York.

The Golden Globes are always something to not miss! Whom do you hope will get to walk away with an award this year?
