The Man Who Lies? A New TikTok Trend from Griffin Dohr

TikTok didn’t exist when Harry went to Hogwarts, but we’re sure that nowadays, every empty classroom would be full of teenagers trying out TikTok trends. This new trend, started by a man with a very Potter-esque name, is sure to sweep quickly through the common rooms, corridors, and classrooms.

Griffin Dohr was born three years before the first Harry Potter book was released in the United Kingdom, but people doubt this fact constantly. The TikTok video includes text saying that Dohr gets called a liar every day. Dohr said that he doesn’t “think you’ll be able to beat me” but still asked everyone to “stitch this, duet it, bop it, twist it, pull it” with names that they thought were cooler than his. Well, the people of TikTok delivered…

Check out the TikTok and replies below, but be warned that it does contain explicit language.

Comments told stories of incredible names, some of which were also Harry Potter related. Several users shared their encounters with a Tom Riddle, and another replied that their dog was named Gryffindog but didn’t believe it would beat Dohr’s name. A couple of users also knew Harry Potters, with one user saying that they always received a lot of phone calls because her grandfather shared a name with our favorite wizard. Other users shared names with different pop culture references. One user spoke of her friend’s dad Freddy Kreuger (a name nearly identical to the main character of A Nightmare on Elm Street), and another said that she and her sister are named Elsa and Anna, just like Frozen‘s princesses. A different user said that they served in the Army with a Sherlock Holmes.

Some names from the Harry Potter series would be sure to join this list too. Whether it be Remus Lupin, the werewolf with two names directly relating to wolves, or Sirius Black, a character named after a canine constellation who is able to transform into a black dog, the series has its fair share of unusual names. Even wizarding world spells have cool incantations, with Crucio, a famous spell to inflict torture, meaning “I torture” and Sectumsempra translating as “to make a permanent wound,” which describes exactly what the spell does.

The video now has over 92K likes and nearly 2K comments on TikTok. The only question in the comments, however, is, is Griffin Dohr a Gryffindor? According to his bio, he’s actually a Slytherin! Do you know somebody with a fun or wacky name that might beat Griffin’s?
