“Harry Potter” Alumni Leave Internet Spellbound During “An Audience with Adele”

by Mary Wojcicki · November 22, 2021

British singer Adele has just released her hotly anticipated album 30, but some Harry Potter alumni in the audience at her recent televised concert event An Audience with Adele caught the attention of social media users.

The audience at the London Palladium included David Tennant (Barty Crouch, Jr.), Dawn French (the Fat Lady, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Dame Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney), and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger). Combined with the magic of Adele’s vocals, it was clear that those in attendance were having a wonderful time – and viewers of the prerecorded concert at home also took notice.

This is TONIGHT! @Adele @ITV
I was there. It was SUBLIME…. she is the total bomb https://t.co/Sz2HUP72le

Thompson and Watson were seated near one another, such that both women were occasionally visible in shots of the audience at the same time.

Thompson also gained some attention from Twitter users for how excited she was by the performance, at one point encouraging her fellow concertgoers to get up from their seats and dance along to the music during “Rolling in the Deep.” Adele later addressed Thompson herself, mentioning that she had seen Thompson “dancing all night.”

You can catch all of Thompson’s dancing in a compilation from broadcaster Scott Bryan (@scottygb) on Twitter.

During the concert, Thompson also surprised Adele by informing her that one of her former teachers, Ms. McDonald, was in the star-studded audience. The moment brought Adele to tears, and she credited McDonald with having sparked her love of English literature.

She got me really into English literature. Like, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics.

Adele later tweeted about the concert and expressed her gratitude for everyone’s excitement, highlighting that even Ms. McDonald had been there.

Home Sweet Home. I’ve always dreamt of doing An Audience With… There was so much love in the room for eachother, it felt like such a gig! Everyone was raucous and bang up for it! And my teacher Ms McDonald was there, it was just heaven ♥️ pic.twitter.com/N1LpkQbeoh
