UPDATED: Pottermore has released the final chapters of “Goblet of Fire”

by Keith Hawk · July 31, 2014

Today, with the celebration of J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter’s birthday, is the perfect time for Pottermore to release the final chapters for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

As always, we will provide you snippets of the new information from the creative mind of Rowling as she reveals all-new information on her characters, places, items, and events from the world of Harry Potter. So stay tuned for updates to this post as we venture through the new chapters as well.

In the meantime, head over to Pottermore and explore the new chapters RIGHT HERE!

UPDATE WITH NEW CHAPTER INFORMATION:

The final chapters of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire are a whirlwind through the rest of the Triwizard Tournament and You-Know-Who’s return, with Hermione’s hate mail, Harry’s trip to the prefects’ bathroom, and much more, squeezed in between.

As always, J.K. Rowling and Pottermore treat us to some brand new information on certain aspects of the wizarding world.

First up, is the Great Lake, which comes under “Merpeople.” Rowling writes,

The lake is full of creatures that would make a Muggle naturalist swoon with delight – if terror did not seize them first. There are grindylows (vicious little water demons), merpeople (of a hardy Scottish strain) and a giant squid, which is semi-domesticated and permits students to tickle its tentacles on sunny days when it basks in the shallows.

Next up, is the fascinating subject of owls (from “Hate Mail”):

The old British superstition that it is unlucky to see owls flying by daylight is readily explained, for when wizards break cover to send messages by day, something dramatic must be afoot in the magical world.

This is followed by information on the Pensieve (from “The Council of Magical Law”), the mysterious object in Dumbledore’s study, which of course becomes rather important later on in the series:

A pensieve is a wide and shallow dish made of metal or stone, often elaborately decorated or inlaid with precious stones and carrying powerful and complex enchantments. Pensieves are rare because only the most advanced wizards ever use them and because the majority of wizardkind is afraid of doing so.

The final topic that Rowling reveals more information on is illness and disability (in “Snape’s Dark Mark”) – another topic that is even more relevant as the story progresses. Rowling writes,

I pondered the issue of illness and disability very early in the creation of Harry’s world. Did wizards catch colds? Could they cure illnesses that baffled Muggles? Were there disabled wizards? What were the limits of wizarding medicine, or could it fix anything?

Rowling certainly still has a lot of information about the wizarding world to reveal! With these fascinating new entries Rowling treats us to even more details about Harry’s world and those curious things that you’ve been wondering about for ages.

Have these snippets got your interest? Make sure you get over to Pottermore now to read the full entries – and answer those questions above – do wizards get colds?

Have you explored the new chapters, yet? What are your thoughts?

UPDATE 2:

The Rita Skeeter biography Dumbledore’s Army: The Dark Side of the Demob is now available to buy from Flourish and Blotts for your trunk! As mentioned in Rita’s gossip column for the Quidditch World Cup, the book was released on Pottermore today – although unfortunately not to actually read! Still, make sure you head to Diagon Alley and add the book to your trunk!

What do you think Rita might speculate about in the book?

UPDATE 3:

To celebrate Harry’s birthday today, Pottermore awarded each user 150 extra Galleons!

#HappyBirthdayHarryPotter! To celebrate Harry turning 34, we’ve given every @pottermore member 150 Galleons – don’t spend it all at once!
