Daniel Radcliffe Starves for His Work
We previously posted about the mini Goblet of Fire reunion with Clémence Poésy honoring Daniel Radcliffe as a Rising Star at the Deauville Film Festival.
What we didn’t talk about is his next film, Jungle, which just finished wrapping up four months of filming in Australian and Colombia and is slated for a 2017 release. The film, which tells the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir of being lost in the Amazon, required Dan to lose a significant amount of weight.
In order to accurately portray the starving character of Yossi, Dan began the diet four weeks prior to the start of shooting. Dan tells the Hollywood Reporter,
It was hard physically because I wasn’t really eating. We were doing very long days, and I was operating on not very much food.
His next project appears to be of a more personal nature, which he has mentioned before – directing his very own script.
It’s not like it’s bad; it’s just not ready yet.
We hope Dan will be able to relax and focus on the new script, considering he feels very comfortable with the new happenings within the wizarding world.
He tells THR that he will never fully give up the role of Harry Potter, which launched him into stardom, saying,
I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do. But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it. At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it. There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched. If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what Star Wars: The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, but there’s also the chance that we’d make Phantom Menace. So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.
Dan has also been supportive of Jamie Parker, who has now portrayed the older Harry for 100 shows on the West End in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
According to THR, Dan feels Parker could tackle the older film version of the Boy Who Lived. Additionally, when asked to give advice to Eddie Redmayne, whose first Fantastic Beasts installment will debut in November, Dan reportedly responded,
He’s an Oscar winner, dude; he doesn’t need my advice.
